Whats the cleanest way to separate the guards from the rad support while still on the car
i have drilled out all the spot welds and unpicked it near the door jams,
do i just separate the joins around the headlight area?

Dunno about cleanest way, but I just cut down the edge of where it joins at the headlight with a chisel. 1mm cutting disc would work well... it's covered by the headlight surrounds anyway, so it didn't matter too much to me...

no ,plenty of fibreglass fronts might have to mig them on and use a die grinder to give you spot weld look unless you can hunt down nos guards

Every part can be unpicked including headlight area. The more you cut with a slitting blading is only extra welding and cleaning up later.

I unpicked my donor as one piece without cutting, A thin slitting blade or chisel helps to breaks the difficult spot welds but still drill them all and it will come as as my pics

The fiddliest part was getting to the spot welds where the rail meet the rear of rad support underneath

wayne, mate the best way for the best resalt to do rear quats is with a dye grinder and vice grips 1mm cutting blade.

step one good car that you are re-storing,,, clean all spot welds, cut the quater about 1 inch from these welds then use the dyegrinder and vicegrips to rip away the rest of the old quater,,, takes time,, but clean and no holes to fill.

step two replacement quaters,,,, do the same thing here but from the otherside,, this leaves no holes and then you just drill the new holes in between the original spot welds and dyegrind them gentle flat and smooth, no one will ever pick that thay have bein off or on.

the time for each quater about 2 to 3 hours, thats if you have the tools on hand. it really is easy, when you dont need to use the part you are removing.

cheers john.

I agree with John, If you remove a doner panel leave enough of the inner panel say 25mm and remove the remainder carefully. what ever you do refrain from using cold chisel as you will alter the contact position of the panel thus ending up with miss alignment. Drill between the spot welds to mig it back on.
