The rego on the scooby-doo (subaru) runs out on the 26th of June, so that's my deadline!
Got home late last night and put the exractors and manifold on. Oh and pulled the old exhaust off, got a lot of shit in my face and eyes...

Great little car, will miss it...

lookin good mate. nice colour too. what sort of 5 spokes are you going? the old school dragway type, or something more modern?

Yeah, I really love the colour.
they are ROH 5 spokes, look more modern than dragways but still 'tough'.
We'll see how they look when they get here.
Got everything wired yesterday :D
just waiting for the carby to come back from acid dip and I'll rebuild it.
Custom crossmember also came today so I'll probably install that tonight and get a tailshaft made up.

pull apart front end, sandblast and powdercoat.
Drill hole for balljoint mount 20mm lower
Fit all new components (tie rod ends and balljoints etc.)
new bushes

New shocks all around. Looking for something decent here, what should I go for?
fit lowered springs. (front done)
fit swaybay, only going front here.
rebuild celica 5 speed an find correct clutch to mount to red motor
compression test motor and bump up to 10.5:1 if needed.
degrease/clean/respray motor
change cam over and new lifters
get new heater core
rebuild heater box and mount in car
mount crossmember in car
Setup brakes and booster
place engine and gearbox in car
wire engine
get tailshaft made with proper length and celica box yoke

rebuild and fit carbie
setup cable to accelerator linkage
change diff from 2.78 to 3.55
fit 2.5in exhaust
fit muffler
add gauges that are required and somehow? get speedo reading right... anyone got any clue here?
cut and polish and wax I'm about halfway through this, cutting back paint is possibly my most hated job in the world
then hopefully drive...

As you can all see I've been a busy boy. I have the whole cable clutch setup mounted, the cable is a vb commodore type, only problem is that it's too long!
I'm talking 110mm too long. Dad and I have devised a kind of 'spacer' made of tubing to go from the firewall out, but i don't really like that idea much, I'dprefer a cable that just fits, were the UC ones any shorter? and where can I buy the 'damper' that mounted onto the firewall where the clutch cable comes out? that will atleast take up about 40mm. It is coming along nicely, it's hard to concentrate on doing things thoroughly when i just want to get it onto the road though.

Well, afer a quick ring around, couldn't find the damper and I still don't know if the UC cable is any shorter, but after some further pondering this morning our 'spacer' was made from some leftover bits. Seeing as I used rubber to mount the K-frame to the body I have a heap of nolathane bushes leftover which worked out to be the perfect size, best of all they are a bush so they 'give' just like a damper would!
check it out

Noow I just have to make a casing that will hold the bushes in line and against the firewall. I love not having to go out and buy things...

have you looked at shortenning the inner cable at the gear box end, could be looped back and crimped and just use one of those bushes
will have a look at mine tomorrow, can't remember how I did it, mine is commy with the big bush at flywall as you know

just looked at all ya posts n pics.. nice job aye!

doing the same to mine, rebuilding it.. just wondering if you painted the alloy stuff on the engine... like the intake manifold and thermostat housing etc? if so, what did you use or is it just cleaned up good?

cheers

Thanks Ken, Dad and I just placved one of those bushes at the firewall and secured it there, then we made a bracket/spacer at the bellhousing and it works perfectly.
Haven't done much since then, just lots of cleaning the interior and cutting/polishing paint.

snotgobbler, thanks man. nah didn't paint any of the alloy stuff (except the rocker cover) they are both just new and unused. had an attempt at polishing the intake manifold, might finish it off a bit later, just a very time consuming process.

So this is where I am.
Ran in the engine today, it feels so good after months of 'nearly there's' and emptying my wallet. I know neither are over just yet, but hearing that rumbly idle and seeing the car put itself in motion (even if it was just to test the clutch adjustment) made it worthwile.

Now I have to finish cleaning cutting polishing most things, and a few little jobs like fiberglassing a bracket to the top of the heaterbox, wiring up a thermatic switch for the thermo fan, getting the indicator switch working properly and a few other things that I'm sure will drive me crazy until they're done and I'm driving.

any question about the stuff I've done, feel free to ask as there was a lot of fabrication work etc. that I never posted up here.

Well it's finally on the road as of tonight.
I'm so totally chuffed with it!
interior and paint came up better than expected, all my mates were more than impressed, I got alot of thumbs up and even an offer to buy it.
engine feels real nice and strong but the 2.78s kill it, as soon I feel it pulling I realise I'm doing 60km/h and that's in first gear! the overdrive is barely useable even at 100. It's also pretty daunting driving with an inaccurate speedo as I am petrified of speeding fines! Looks like I'm searching for a set of 3.36 banjo gears if anyone's got em?

A few little things need to be touched up here and there but all in all I'm just so damn happy with it!
I will get some pics up soon, promise.
Might not hear from me for a while, I'll be too busy driving :3gears:

Keen to catch up with some other owners soon for a cruise.
