Hopefully GMH sent out a bulletin to the dealers not to polish the blackouts pre-delivery, as I can never remember seeing a satin LX SLR5000. Begs the question, does a new vehicle adopt the specifications and attributes of a vehicle as it leaves the assembly line or leaves the dealer as delivered?
The answer would also need to consider recalls.

I'm sure something was done to the paint to stop them from polishing up. My car still had the original paint when I bought it and no matter what I did to the bonnet it refused to polish up to the same gloss as the rest of the car. The green car I supplied pics of was a satin finish, as was the red car I pics of somewhere here. having said that dealers did whatever they liked, I know some painted the engine bays in clear to make them more presentable, and most painted the fuel tanks black rather than leave them in the original gal finish.

Wow, Great info in this thread! These are things that i never ever even thought of before! Its interesting bout the line over the bolt on one side, and around it on the other! Is that common on many SLR's etc?

Fantastic stuff. I never thought I'd extract this much infor from such a simple question.

While we are on the topic do you (Reda9X or anyone else) know the exact dimensions of the Bonnet Hole under the Scoop.

The way it seems is that the Blackout was a Rough Paintjob. My Dad's stories are testament to this. He worked in GMH in the 70's - 1990 and he told me of how they sprayed the black on the Radiator support, (the part visible from through the Grille) with a Rattle can.

It also surprises me that they took the time to spray the little lip inside the Bonet Blacck whilst the rest of the underbonet was Body colour, or is this just another aftermarket thing? Can you confirm that.

Yep, they were all the same originally most people repaint them neatly, which looks better, but for me I wanted it back to original. I believe a template was just sat over the engine bay which would account for the very rough lines

Some go info here has answered some questions I was going to ask. One other question, I believe the blackout at the bottom of the radiator opening extends to front part of the nose cone and is covered up largely by the front spoiler, hence there is only a small portion of black visible above the spoiler. Any pictures of this are would answer all my questions.

Cheers

It's just been replated, the bottom part needs to be painted black yet

This should answer how the front should be

Oooooo Great... More details.... So the Catch section is in Bare Metal and the straight section connecting to the bottom of the Radiator support should be Black. Correct?

This has been a great insight into the intricate details of an A9X Paintwork Thanks heaps, especially for the Photo's.

I now sleep a little easier at night.

No Need for apologies. The info that has been extracted on this post has been fantastic.

If anyone can think of any other trivial fact about an A9X paintjob please let loose. I spray my car in 2 weeks.

I'm not sure if this is any help as I'm no A9X expert, but I knew a bloke in Canberra years ago who had what he claimed was a genuine factory original condition 55,000km Palais White A9X hatch that he'd bought when it was two years old ( I believed him to the way he had it cocooned in a warehouse behind a wall of wooden pallets he had to move with a forklift to show me the car) In any case it had a satin black finish bonnet & scoop, & from memory the black finished on top of the guards & nose cone in line with the bonnet & didn't extend down into the apertures. The reason I remember this is the bolts holding the guards on were zinc finished & I thought all LXs were painted with the guards on bolts & all.

Interested to know if the blackouts on the A9X, (sedan to be specific) are satin around the windows, door handles and boot spoiler or just the bonnet? If so, where does it start/end?
