Craig, where are you going? Newcastle is not that way! I am now in front and have no idea where I am going !!! LOL

bahahaha the look on your face was priceless, you look like a little kid that had been left by his mum in the shops.

Yep what a great weekend. I cruised up with some of the ACT boys on friday, then hung out all day with the boys at the motel. Then we got to go on the mini cruize to newcastle on saturday. Then of course the fest on sunday. :spoton:

I got to meet heaps of people from the forum and many others of course. The highlight for me was Harry at the dinner and Bev on Sunday...2 great people in there own right. How sharp was Harry  :spoton: amazing!!

I must thank all the people that commented on my Hatch...it blew me away the interest people have in the car. To me the car is a quick mini project that I did over 5 months to basically clean it up and put back on the road. I suppose there arnt to many unflared SL V8 hatchbacks kicking around these days and because of that it sought of stands out.

Of course looking at all the cars on sunday was fantastic...many favorites...but one stood out for me..the "L34" from the ACT...it was like a flashback for me of my LH back in the 80's....it was spooky.

I even picked up a good gift pack at the auction on sunday...a MCM 09 Torana Calander, MCM Cap and Trilogy Torana DVD set..all for $30 bargain!!

Its a pity the TF is far from where I live, as I would have loved to have my Race LX there...maybe next time.

Anyhow thanks to all the Newcastle Boys for putting on a great weekend...great mates, great cars and great weather...well done!! :spoton:

My car ran faultlessly all weekend...I got home at 9pm on sunday....and like many others, I'm absolutly stuffed...but it was well worth the effort.

Had a great day on sunday! and a great night on sunday night (getting home at about 12am after leaving home at 6.30am!)

In my opinion, Toranafest isnt about showy bullshit, its not about absolute ball tearing million dollar cars with overdone paintwork.

Its about REAL cars, the ones we can expect to see out and about, cruising around and getting used for what they are meant for.

If you want "top notch" then go to summernats or meguirs motor ex, if you want to see more toranas in one place then ever before, come to toranfest.

I find the best part of the show is the social aspect. I met 10+ members from GMH yesterday, and a few other random people who just came to say hello and chat about my LJ.

Good to finally put faces to names on a screen.

ohh and Judd! i snuck a look at the dash mate, good job! I dont think I cand o the same thing though, due to the big rounded fronts on the gauges I have.

Though Ive now hatched a plan to fix my second dash attempt.

And my only 2 bitchs for the day-

people (spectators) with kids, I know it can be hard to watch your kids 100% of the time, but when your kid is running around touching every ones cars with an ice cream in his other hand, or runnin their fingers down the side of someones car, Im pretty sure thats when you do something about it? (hey im no father yet, but thats the way I look at it)

I saw one child, about 4 or 5, walking along with his parents (after presentation) and he ran up to my uncles GTR, and his parents said dont touch that, so the kid, while looking straight at his parents, slapped the front nosecone and ran his hand along the front, the parents did nothing, he then ran to the next car, my old mans juniper XU-1, they said "dont touch" and what did he do? the same thing again. I was standing about 50m away at my car, and yelled at the kid not to touch the cars, to filthy looks from his parents...

The second one is about the drop in awards categories. There were no best XU-1 restored or anything this year. I know there is always bitching about it, maybe thats why they were dropped?

on the subject of awards-
I had a forum member tell me what the "judges" said to him while judging his car (which did quite well) and to be honest, It made me laugh at the things they think are "important" in judging criteria... makes you wonder if the old entrant judging should be brought back into contention (half decided by the entrants, half by the judges?)

I wont say what was said to me, or to this person (unless they choose to mention anything) but its laughable.

As a final note-

I now have a healthy respect for victorian torana lovers.

Met Matt (MRLXSS) and his partner Maddy yesterday for the first time.
Karlie and I hung out with them after the day was all done and dusted (and didnt get home until midnight)

Matt and I hit up the quadstacks after a few beers, lets just say they are nice going down after some beers, but coming through in the morning is horrible! haha.

If I could have been there I would, but, taking the fam away for the school holidays is (according to she who must be obeyed) SIGNIFICANTLY more important than TF. I am green with envy and come hell or high water I'll be there in 09. Bring it on.

It was an awesome day - the weather was perfect! My ride up was great (did 2 laps of the old pacific highway on the way up). This is the 4th t'fest i've been to. The earlier ones felt like it was only for the elite/original cars and all the tough ones were parked on the road. In the last 2 years it seems to me like they've changed it (for the better). I love the idea of seeing a genuine A9X parked next to a 700hp drag car, next to a unrestored bog stock daily.

I reckon this was by far the best one ever and it will be hard to better it.

Cheers
Marty

Yep, as all have said a top day.

Big thanks to Mick (LXSSTORANA) for the ride up and back, and the great 70's music.

Good to meet the NSW Torana Club, ACT Club and a heap of other members.

Didn't Tangerine dream sparkle on the day!! That's a great car Herne.

Thanks to Tiny and Simone for the T shirt too, I appreciate you dragging it with you to every event
in the slim chance I would be there!!! Came thu this time! - A9X it looks fab. Thanks again.

Well, I did have one gripe for the day, and its self inflicted.....

......I look like a friggin' red panda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got so carried away I forgot to put sunscreen on,
and am sooooooo red, with big white circles where my sunnies were. Worth it though. Ouch...

Thanks to the Hunter Club for a wicked week end.

Hopefully I'll be there next year with a car. Need to have a "longest in planning award" or "best air torana"
[like air guitar] or something, as encourangement for people like me. LOL

Cheers all, and great meeting a whole bunch of ya.

- Leakey

Glad you enjoyed the day Leakey, happy to have some company and catch up. :spoton:

Like so many people have said already, congratulations to Mick and all the guys & gals from the Hunter Valley Torana Club for organising the biggest and best torana show in Australia.

If you didn't enjoy the day you'd be a hard person to please.

Anyway, I can't believe no one has mentioned that a certain member from Cootamundra who has a beautiful SS complete with hatch hutch scored big time on the day (twice!)

He's probably travelling home as we speak and will let him reveal all.

Great to catch up with many forum members and put a face to the name.

See you again next year,

Mick.

Hi Guys what a fantastic weekend!

This is where you will find the photo's I took.

https://cache.gmh-to...v645/herne_101/ pages 1 to halfway through page 5 are all of the weekend.

I would like to thank all the forum members that took the time to look me up, too many for me to name or remember I am afraid but I truly appreciated you guys taking the time to find me.

Leakey, thanks for the kind comments you made earlier in this thread. :)

My all time favorite picture is that of Beverly Brock sitting in my car. Wow what a lady she is. I will treasure that photo!!!

The trip to Newcastle went without incident for our group and although getting through Hornsby area was a pain it was worth the effort.

Jeremy helped prepare my car and Huxs and what a treat they looked. Now wonder he had a few beers Saturday night as he had truly earned them.
Saturday night was a blast but you had to be there to appreciate it. Jeremy entertained about 8 of us with what I will call TALES FROM THE ESKY. Basically it was advice about women ;) Sadly Jeremy inadvertently upset a couple of the Victorian lady club members but to his credit he apologized and all was taken pretty well. We had tears of laughter in our eyes from his continuous stream of jokes and banter.

I would like to thank the number of people that assisted me and looked after me all weekend with special mentions to Jeremy and keith1962. I am proud to have such friends.

We took this photo on the way home. Mods please delete this if you see fit. No harm is meant.

What a top day all round! Was great to meet more people from the forum.

Parking next to LITRE8 for the day was awesome..........we fired the cars up at midday (peer group pressure, honestly :D ) and I could still hear L8 over the top of 2T, which was not idling let me tell you - sensational.

Car of the day (in my opinion) was Nutboys, congrats on the well deserved trophies

Was a pleasure to meet Bev Brock, who was kind enough to have a photo taken with us

As they say, it's not just about the journey but also the destination.
