Hi all,

Just wondering, the guys that are running holden 355 stokers roughly what are you reving them too and if you know what rwhp are you getting.

Curious as I have been playing with mine lately and 6500rpm is about the max rpm. Stops making power at 6, funny thing is the cam is good for 7500 and I am running the harrop single plane manifold too.

Just seems funny to me I thought it would rev a bit harder than this.

What camshaft are you using?

We find most 355 strokers make peak power around the 6800 mark if the intake runner is sized correctly to suit.

My 355 has VN injection Harrop single plane manifold & a solid lift cam with a curve of around 3000-7500rpm but I was told by the engine builder the safe maximum rev limit is 6500rpm, 6000rpm if I gas it with NOS. On Sam's Performance dyno it put out 438bhp @ 6500rpm

The cam I have is a Waggot with the following specs

Lift 600 thou with 1.65:1 rockers (In & Ex)
Intake - 249 @ 50 - total 277
Exhaust - 258 @ 50 - total 285

Not a huge cam but still decent size.

Mine is about the same...limit is 6500rpm max...hold it down to 6300rpm...441 HP with a 288 cam and dual plane...the cam says the same but hinges on the air flow through the heads...can be made to happen...but I lose torque and it moves further up the rev range...pretty much depends on what you have in mind to use it for..I was after shit loads of midrange...got it too! I tried 3rd... once.... up the back straight at SOT... and it just spun the slicks up all the way to the next corner.....I smiled! :D

Sounds very similar to mine a little more power though. Can't find my dyno sheet but it had average torque & I was a little disappointed at first. My engine has 10.1 SRP forged pistons & COME alloy heads bolted on with no further mods. Cam is COME CSBS688 [email protected]" [email protected]" lift with 1.6:1 rocker .550int .560exh. lobe seperation of 108. It has 1.65:1 rockers so the lift will be slightly higher. I wanted mid-top end performance with help from a 100 shot of NOS but with tyres I'm running & 4.11 gears it has no traction off the bottle so I won't be gassing it now. Guess it comes down to what you said, depends what you want. I originally wanted 11 sec passes but now I enjoy just cruising it with a little stab of the throttle now & then. And yeah it puts a smile on my face too.

505hp@6200 rpm. engines that make that power but higher in the rpm range use a harrop.tp manifolds make the same power lower.

I put mine on dyno the other day its 338 cubes crane 280 solid cam harrop manifold holley 700dp with stock standered VN heads (exept valve springs) and it made 320hp 6800rpm at the wheels.

Hey there waz355.Thanks for comment. My Torana uses a VN Delco ECU & an EFI hardware quad throttle body with a Delco TPS & IAC. The ECU switches the thermo on at around 180 on the autometre guage. Cheers Matt

hi guys,..i'm currently running a 355 stroker in one of my L34s,.using the original L34 heads with a bit port job isky valve springs, factory L34 HM headers with street extensions, big crow solid cam, torker manifold,750 holley double pumper, mechanical fuel pump, runs pump gas..it made 407 hp and 427 ft pounds of torque...its absolute handful,..its run 11.5 quarter mile at 118 miles hour, with a 4sp super t10...i rev to 6200 rpm with ease, car weighs 1430 pounds with me in it (i'm 81 kg)..with a set of vn heads it would be ballistic..not bad for a old style combo...

Not sure they came on the heads when I bought them.

Just about to pull the heads off and put different valve springs on, as I don't think they are up to the task.

Why???

Because the problem sounds like it is valve spring or exhaust related.

Yeah I think it is too.

Have been playing with fuel pressure and timing. Just went out in it before and reved it to 6000 rpm, which is the hardest I have reved it so far on the road. Can feel power start to dip away at around 5800rpm. Goes like a cut snake, but it should make max power higher in the rev range.

I would start at springs...might be old and getting float at higher revs...sure someone will have a better idea. Is it strong in the middle?

thats a little shy on comp, it would make alot more power with 11 to 1+ comp

Hey LHSLR3300, I have the same camshaft CSBS688 in my 355. I haven't dyno'd mine yet, but it will be an interesting comparison to yours (438hp, but yours is low on torque.. how low?). I am running 11.0:1 comp with ported cast iron VN heads, TP hi-rise dual plane manifold & Holley HP carby. What size pipes are you running?

Hi. I found the dyno sheet for my engine, peak torque was 382 LBS@ 5500rpm. The comp ratio was a guess & to be honest I don't know the exact figure but it has SRP forged pistons & C.O.M.E alloy heads untouched. The block decks were machined down at least 20 thou cause I had to get the engine number restamped. Tried several different pipes on it & settled on Pacemaker extractors 1 5/8 primaries into dual 2 1/2 exhaust. Have run it down the quarter twice & has run 12.7@113mph so far on street tyres on a slippery track taking off easy as it wheelspun into second trying to launch off the stall on my first run.

Rob lc was telling me about this at Bathurst, sounds like an absolute weapon, mines a similiar setup, but with standard stroke, reed solid cam, old heads, webers making just over 435 hp flywheel.

Plenty of power AND a stickshift.
I wouldn't be surprised if you drive that car around laughing like a madman.
Too much fun!!!!
