quick off the mark but once cruising the stock v8 diff of 3.46:1 will always be better on fuel.
BCR42Y - exhuast was done by the dealer before I laid eyes on the car. I did have plans to fit extractors but since i only bought it as a company car i eventually sold it about 3 1/2 years later.

The reason why monaros use more fuel is simply diff ratio...3.89:1

dunno who told you that cause the diff ratios are the same.

hsvs are the same, my old boy has a gto and mum has a cv8z,but a gto is alot better car than a cv8 the brakes and suspension are a big improvement.

My figures this week came in at around 13L/100kms... Was on track to get 500ks out of the tank (When it says im empty, most i can feed in is about 64-65L)

the HSV monaro's are actually called a 'coupe' there is nothing on the car anywhere that says monaro.
although I do call mine a monaro.
Yes back to the subject.
I think the 3.9 diff ratio actually allows you to get better fuel economy up until 100km/h.
reason being is that you dont have to put your foot down so hard to get the car moving and I can actually put mine int 6th at 80km/h but apparently a normal commodore is not happy in 6th until around 100km/h.
However saying that I prefer 5th until about 100 because it is a little difficult getting from 6th back to 2nd if you want to floor it at 80. 5th to 2nd is a lot easier. after 100 6th back to third is nice!

that will also help with fuel economy a very small amount and is free to do.

Have you guys pulled the water hose off your throttle body as well and blanked it off?
that will also help with fuel economy a very small amount and is free to do.
Never knew about that mod. What does that do? just runs the throttle body at a cooler temperature? Might give that a shot!
I agree on the 3.9 ratio... Around now i heard 3.9 gets better economy because you can whack it in 6th gear at 80. atm, 6th is only good for 100ks+
Maybe a 3.7 would keep us both happy?

not to nit pick but its 3.07
hsvs are the same, my old boy has a gto and mum has a cv8z,but a gto is alot better car than a cv8 the brakes and suspension are a big improvement.
Is the ratio 3.07 or 3.08? VX and V2 specs say 3.08 for auto, but you are right with 3.07 quoted for VZ. I know it makes bugger all difference, but It is nice to be spot on.

I dont understand the bit about there not manaros ,what are they and what is the value of a hsv gto to a cv8 ? To me unless a manaro has 2 doors they are not a manaro but holden says different , what makes a commodore manaro a manaro and is a hsv le coupe a manaro or not ? TREX
I've got a pair of HK GTS 327's, and I wanted a Monaro to put next to them in the shed. HSV didn't call their version a Monaro hence I was reluctant to have one (sort of I suppose like Torana vs Sunbird). Plus to me personally the GTO is ugly as hell, but the V2 CV8 is a nice looking car. I would have "suffered" a HSV GTS coupe though, but these were not comparable in price at the time to a CV8 or GTO which were about the same. Also looked at a VZ CV8Z, but two things turned me off: The lack of a boot (our CV8 is just big enough) and XB/XC Falcons are my pet hate hence the bonnet scoops on the CV8Z killed it's looks for me.

Only other thing i might do, is get a new power steering fluid bottle.... But Im happy with how it looks now!
Also economy wise... I get about 500k's out of a tank... So around 12L/100km's! Beat that Toyota Prius!
