Shit, just bolt the VNs on std...they flow more than anything you as an amatuer porter can do in a life time.

Hey makka,

Was at justins work last night, he showed me a RPM? or Redline? High Rise manifold to suit a VN headed carby motor. It looked shit hot! I think he said it was only about $400... Very tempting... But then we still need extractors.

I'll put up some pics tonight of my new ported heads as well... HEHE! Justin gave me a few tips and pointed out a few things... Bit hard to explain without having the heads to demonstrate what im on about.

O yeah, also... Game on bitch!

Also, chatting last night with a few people...

I heard there are a few other things to note in regards to L34 Vs VN heads.

VN heads will make its power up high, but not be as torquey down low?

L34 heads will be nice and grunty down low, but struggles making power up high?

I think thats how i interpreted things

redline manifolds are $600 ish.i sold a used one on ebay for $525 :)

older style heads have no performance advantages over vn ones.the torque thing is not true,i'm yet to see a stock vl v8 out torque a vn v8.there is a world of difference (and yes i know its not 'only' because of the heads.

These were the Hi-Rise ones, where there is like an air-gap. I'll ask him What brand and actual price it is next time i see him

I used that exact same Redline manifold on a bog standard low kM VP SS engine in my Overlander 1-tonner last year. The engine had significantly less low rpm torque than the worn out old red 308 that it replaced. Once it got up and going it was great, just not that good for low rpm work especially in a 4x4. It used the same 600 Holley, HEI dizzy and LPG mixer as the old engine. It really needed the injection bolted back on to improve it's low rpm torque, which was always the plan. I have no doubt the peak torque and peak power would have been much greater with the EFI heads though, but for a tow or 4x4 carby application the early heads were better.

For the VN style heads there are 6 manifold choices to run a carby.

Torque-power have two to choose from. Dual plane and and Single plane. Thier sigle plane is the best available for power (racing) applications. The single plane has the air gap and will not fit under the bonet without cutting a hole.

Harrop also have two to choose from (duel and single) and are so similar to the Torque-power. Harrop were the first to make them and Torque-power improved on it. The Harrop single plane has the air gap and needs a hole in the bonet.

Inner Actice make one and I think it a dual palne one (I can find out exactly if your interested). Not as the Harrop and Torque-power.

The Redline hiwinder is a sigle plane manifold but is no where near as good as the Harrop and Torque-power. It's not even as good as the dual plane Harrop or Torque-power but will fit under the bonet no hole and is the cheapest of all the VN style manifolds. I have first hand experience with this one and change to a Torque-power single and it was like WOW heaps more grunt. Sadly I inverted the hatch before I got a time slip to post a track time comparison.

Makka if you port the old heads yourself get some good advice on what and where to as a bad port job good can make heads much worse if done wrong.
My VT ones had to be re-done by some one who knew what they were doing as the fist engine builder (ex mate) did a shocking job, 20hp flow gain by having it done right. Luck they weren't damaged like my bother inlaws who bought some VN ones that some one had done at home and made them worse than std. They were binned and $300 out of pocket, he was too honest to sell them to anyone else.

active manifolds are single plane
tp makes 3 manifolds the one you missed was the big paw one
use a tp single plane under 550hp,use a harrop single plane over that power
the hiwinder is a good manifold till about 450hp and will make more low down power than a harrop

i cant comment on dual plane manifolds as i think they suck and i wouldnt use one :) haha

those pics indicate a very ported exhaust, if over done this will reduce torque output.

My recommendation was Torque Power. But the manifold type is what you have to decide on; single plain, high rise dual plane, standard dual plane. All depends on the intended use.
