just wondering if anyone here has dry decked a 186/202 before? where did you drill and tap the block for the coolant lines?

Cheers

all water transfer holes between the head and block need to be plugged, headgaskets arent used, instead copper o-rings seal the combustion chambers.

Use the welsch plugs..........often done on Nc engines, not necessarily dry decking them though.

What do you gain by doing this? The only thing i can see that it would do is improve the heads seal on the block.

is it sorta like this?? http://www.farrfaste...ct turbo 6.html

When I sure this setup I had no idea what it was, this thread sorta put me on the right track. No idea what advantages it has though... Wouldn't mind reading a little more into it now..

Good for one shot ponies - drag-strip motors - but not so good if you want to drive it around town.

yep, thats what dry decking is, comes in handy if your sticking a head that doesnt belong on a 202 on. I was thinking welsch plugs would work.

Ford head? which model?

How close are the combustion chambers in the head, to aligning with that on the 202?

would be a pretty massive job IMO, especially clearancing everything

Chris,
It's the 3.9/4L heads AFAIK.

Same bore spacing. Spin head front to back.
You'll need to weld some meat to the top off side of the block (oil pump side).
Voila, cross flow.

It IS possible to redrill the water supply, but v. difficult.

I've seen a setup that a large chunk of aluminium was bolted to where the side plates that cover the lifter/pushrod area would normally go, this was with the crossflow aluminium head, I think xd-xf era?

Have also heard of an OHC setup which used the EA-AU style head.

Which head do you plan to use?

By the way, anyone know if the BA's kept the same bore spacing? twin cam, 16 valve 202 would be pretty awesome :)

In the future I plan to play around with one of these setups :)
