When I got it it looked like this:
After I took it apart and cleaned it up I painted it ford light blue (yeah its ford but the holden blue is crook):
I managed to pick up a reco head with unleaded inserts for $250 which saved me a shitload. For a while I fed it a diet of new bearings and a 40thou overbore until it was ready to go in the car. Me and a few mates pulled 2 late nights building it before the end of my school holidays, including a 3am night the day before we went back.
Here's a pic of the engine:
And the obligatory standing in the bay shot:
I took it to the mechanic down the road who got it running and ran the cam in that day. When I brought it home the clutch didnt work properly which I later found out was because I'd forgotten to put a spigot bush in the auto crank for my manual box. So the engine had to come back out and went back in that weekend and I finally got to drive it.
Unfortunately a few days later I crashed my mums vt into a tree and spent 2 days unconscious in liverpool hospital. When I got out I got back into the run in stage and spent 500kms going real easy, did the oil change and then gave it a few small tests and was very happy with it.
Since then its got extractors and a 2.5" lukey exhaust:
And I bought a set of triple sus off blown308 which look like I can make them fit a 12 port head pretty easily so hopefully by the time we get to the christmas cruise they'll be on and running and the xu1 engined commodore will be finished driveline-wise
It just doesn't look right with a single carby:
So hopefully these will go on soon:
A pic of the whole car:

and the cherry on top disconecting all the emmission gear... those were the days.
advice for chris get an older (much older) car and you dont even have too worry when the transport dept pull you up, with tripple carbs,
even i saw those "P" plates on the grass... only a matter of time before the "boys" pull you over,
Cheers Baz

I had use of a 2 post hoist so no dramas. I put everything back on including tail shaft, reverse switch plug and exhaust system.
Went to hook the clutch cable up.
I forgot to put the clutch fork on the gear box input shaft...

Anyway just a little update, car now has 4 wheel discs, a 1" master cylinder from a vs ss and a celica gearbox. The engine has been reco again (properly this time) and the engine bay has been done in POR gloss black. I also had the head shaved 50thou to bump up the compression to about 9.4, and it has crane roller rockers, hardened pushrods and a bit of porting as well. Should go a little harder when its run in. The twin cold air intake was made by melding two vh commodore 2850 cold air intakes into one.
