Second rebuild started in 2002/2003 as "Missy" was getting a little sad after nearly 15 years from when we first rebuilt her. We started by welding up the sun roof - don't know who invented those things...
David then extended the rear wheel arches back an inch to eliminate scrubbing tyre syndrome.
She was on the rotisserie for nearly 5 years while David tinkered with perfecting little things that bothered him from the first rebuild.
Posted Image
She's the same colour (custom) - expertly eye matched by a guy down south, as the paint supply shop here in Mackay that had "Missy's" colour code, went out of business and all files were thrown!
Posted Image
To cut a long story short... we have made a point of simply improving on modifications and detail while basically leaving the car as she was.
We have owned Pink Miss for the past 21 years and don't ever intend parting with her - she holds a lot of sentimental value to us both.

 Custom mods include:
 LJ front
Custom made sheet metal side skirts and molded mud spats (rears)
XB GT bonnet (yes... the real deal, kindly donated to us by a friend - who now regrets the donation...)
Road bike aluminium flip fuel cap
 Recessed rear number plate panel
 3rd brake light
Smoothed engine bay, floor pan and chassis
 Custom integrated air conditioning
 Modified dash
Front guards smoothed out to meet windscreen panel
Custom boot fit-out including battery re-location
Re-trimmed interior except for original door trims, colour coded to the car
 Hidden engine bay wiring

She wears 17 x 7 front Junkyard Dogs (Boyd Coddington) with Fulda 205's and 17 x 8 JD's on the rear with Fulda 235's
Stainless 2inch split exhaust system running out to two, 2 1/2 inch tips
202 block bored 30thou with ACL race series pistons, bearings, rings etc... lightened fly wheel, blue motor conrods
Yella Terra stage 2 head converted to unleaded, ported and polished
 Genie performance extractors
 Triple SU's
 Electronic ignition

I could go on and write a small essay, but I won't. I have posted numerous pics which tell a thousand words. The car is almost finished and will be back on the road before Christmas.

She is an original GTR with all matching tags. She was purchased from a friend back in 1987 for $1,600. She was painted (roughly) black, looking rather sorry, sitting under a mango tree in the back yard. She was my first car at 18 - and has been in the family ever since.

Sometimes I think yes, we will have the people who would gasp in horror at the mods we have done over the years - but my husband is not into standard - anything! As he reminds me, we have done her up to suit ourselves - no-one else and plus we are not about to sell her - don't worry what other people think!!

We will be doing a few localised shows next year and hope to arouse some interest - particularly in those who would remember her from 20 odd years ago!

I will stop yabbering now and simply post as many pics as possible - please enjoy our project!

Many many hours have gone into this car judging by the pictures. It's also great to read that you share this passion with hubby. My wife thinks it's stupid spending the money I do on the car.

Good thing is that I've been restoring bikes to pay for it all.

As you said people may not like what you done, but no one can take away the amount of effort that has gone into this car. Great work.

hey its your car do what you want, I think people get upset more so when you buy a car restored then change it, after 21 years ownership if they dont like it well you know what to say...on a lighter note anyhow its only one of them small toranas lol... by the way I like your changes.

Actually she does, but her hubby is far from a torana lover. My wife had a bit of sheltered/posh upbringing. It's a bit like that song about the uptown girl with the down town boy.

My wife has only driven the Torana about 4 times when it was on the road. She complained about the heavy steering, no power windows, too noisy, too fast..and it went on.

She asked the other day if the Torana had air bags in case of an accident and how she didn't want the kids in it because it's not safe...

Outstanding......lots of hard work and effort put in there.....great result...enjoy cruising......

Also....im going to modify my inner wheel arches too, just the inner forward and inner rear bottom sections(if you know what I mean) not tubbed as such, just to provide a little more tyre clearance.....any tips or pics on your mods....I have put plenty of thought into it but someone elses ideas and expierences always helps.....cheers...justin..

Building them for yourself is spot on.

You don't see many Holden 6 powered cars with dual exhausts now. I remember when it was a bit of a fashion to do this - I reckon it sounds pretty good.

Well done on your project.

My hubby's torana at the time I met him (a mandarin red LH), was what attracted me to him in the first place!! Only my family (hubby and two kids) and my wonderful friends, come before my love of cars... and did I hear you mention bikes?? I am waiting on delivery of my latest baby - a 250 Hunter Spyder (full size chopper) - bikes are something hubby is not into... and did I mention the colour? If you guessed pink, you'd be right. I can see the only drama I will have once Pink Miss is on the road will be deciding what to take out on weekends... hmm - do I take the car or the bike?? :spoton:

Thanks to everyone who has had a look at what we've been doing...
Thanks for the encouraging comments!!
They certainly give us a lift and give us the incentive to move along a little quicker to get this old girl back on the road where she belongs!

Hi Col,
When David gets a moment he will come on and say hi properly... he remembers!! :burnout:
