Most of the Torana bushes (including diff ones) are the same as HQ-WB so should be readily available

So ive dropped the VS diff off at RodTech on monday should be done next thursdayish hopefully..
Ended up going HQ stud pattern after alot of umming and arring..

WhiteLine are having transport issues with the swaybars and they wont be in for a while.. im hopeing i can pick them up on the 2nd of feb when the diff gets put in so it can get done all at once..

CarTorque was trying to sell me a different swaybar from a mob that used to build them for whiteline in NSW.. i cant remember what they are called tho.. dammit.. ill keep tryin to google them..

Im getting pretty anxious as is starting to be a race.. will the banjo break before the B/W gets put in.. its starting to get louder and louder.. lol..

Hopefully ill get some pics when the car is up in the air some before and after shots..

EDIT: i found the other swaybar company Selbys they used to be whiteline.. so id assume they would have the same product it would just mean im not paying for the brand name or the pretty colouring?

whitelite or selbys im not sure now.. at leat i could have a selbys one before the 2nd of feb.. and probably cheaper..

I always thought that Whiteline bought out Selbys, obviously not. I'm pretty sure they're good.

It is my understanding that Selby's became Whiteline. I also read somewhere that a couple of employees from Whiteline have formed a new company I think called Selby's and specialise in making the low volume one off sway bars that Whiteline are no longer interested in producing.

i have a selbys front bar that i bought only a couple of years ago.
ball jointed adjustable front mount.Quality seems very good.

Good to see that you are making progress on your car.

yeah this first part of my plan is coming along quite nicely.. a little too quickly tho..
i still haven't found some HQ wheels that i like yet..

im thinking 16" * 7" on the front with 225/50 tyres and 16" * 8" on the rear with 245/50..

i dont have flares or rolled guards so im just going to get the wheels and put the 7" ones on the back for now..

im leaning toward wheels that look like..
Posted Image
Posted Image
this one from centerline looks nicer than the one below from dragway..
Posted Image
Posted Image
i also like the 5 spoke star looking thing but centerline dont make it in a HQ stud pattern, probably could do with a little fatter star on it tho..
Posted Image
Posted Image
or this one from performance but they dont make it in a 16" wheel..
Posted Image
Posted Image

urgh its difficult to find a set of wheels.. maybe i should just go pick up a set of stockies and work out the shineys later on.. do they even make 16" stock rims so at least i wont have to buy 2 sets of rubbers.. doubt it..

im starting to get a nice tyre pile here.. set of 13" jellybeans, set of 13" stockies, set of 13" hotwires..

ok so everything is ready to go on monday..

picking up the diff from rodtech in the morning..
have springs/shocks/swaybars on my bedroom floor ready to be fitted..
have told transsteer that i havnt organized bushes so only replace whats necessary..

only problem is i still dont have wheels yet.. urgh..

got a quote from dragway for some billet wheels from their website..

15x7 & 15x8 DB 115 are $672.00 each, 16x7 & 16x8 DB 115 are $682.00 each,

omg that is a huge price for wheels but i guess they are custom wheels.. so im looking for a quality but cheaper alternative.. the wheels from dragway are the ones in the second picture on this page.. something like that.. i dont even know if they are going to look any good on the torry so dont quite want to pay that much for them..

and im still having trouble finding temp wheels.. unsure if 14" would fit over the vs brakes, and if 8" wide would fit under my guards.. and another problem is no one on ebay likes to send the wheels out.. pick up only mostly..

or i could just give up and go gts rims from..
http://stores.ebay.c...LLS-PERFORMANCE
i have no idea if the wheels are anygood tho..

I'm in Adeliade too.

Car Torque

i dropped the old girl off at TransSteer monday morning..
picked up a pair of 14" stocky wheels from a wreckers down the road brand new tyres $100 anything is better than nothing..
bob jane all rounders 185/65/14 off the top of my head, i gain about 3.5pc circumference..
went to rodtech in the afternoon, as it wasnt ready earlier..
picked up the new diff, dropped it off at transsteer..
now its wednesday arvo and they have only jus gotten the old diff out of her..
transsteer is a pretty busy place, lots of cars out the front waiting to get some attention and this damn hot weather doesnt help either..
i want to drive her again..

i opted not to change the bushes unless they are stuffed because we half redone the suspension a few years ago with new cheepo bushes to get past a roadworthy.. and when i do the body ill want to take her completely apart and renew all the little things..

Its been 3 weeks and TransSteer havnt finished with my car, they are having trouble with the handbrake cable and finding time to get the old girl up on the hoist as they have many other jobs to do. should be done this week.. urgh.. its annoying me as instead of driving around all the time i have to pedal, its not good im losing weight.. if youve seen me i really dont need to lose weight..

after missing out on the centerlines in the advertiser by 5 minutes.. the fella told me to drop by at 6pm to come pick them up.. i got there at 5 to 5.. and the guy told me that he had just sold them 5 mins ago.. damn..

so i found another set of 15*8 centerlines on ebay got them for $680 with tyres freighted from victoria they got here today.. im not sure what i should of expected for the money i paid for them.. but in one of the questions he described the mags/tyres as..

there would have to be 1600 bucks worth of tyres and at least 1000 dollers worth of mags here

i thought that was a bit over the top description.. but stil got me thinking that the wheels/tyres were reasonably new.. they arrived and they are in pretty good condition some scratches and scrapes and some pitting on one of them.. im stil happy with what i got anyways.. hopefully they fit..

pictures:
Best Wheel.. some light gutter rash:
Posted Image
Posted Image
2nd Best Wheel.. some more light gutter rash and some light bird crappings:
Posted Image
Posted Image
3rd Best Wheel.. some pitting on the face of the wheel:
Posted Image
Posted Image
Worst Wheel.. some big gutter rash and some of the rivets look to be shaved off a bit:
Posted Image
Posted Image

Compare the old wheels/tyres to the new ones.. i dont think they will fit it looks like david and goliath..
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

i wasnt told what the backspace was on these wheels would someone be able to tell me.. i think they are 5" as the line at the 2cm mark looks to be even with the back face.. but heres a pic..
Posted Image
Posted Image

my old tyres were 13" 205/60.. these ones are 15" 275/60.. by the tyre bible they are 23.4pc bigger.. so i really dont think they will fit.. the two hankook tyres seem relatively new but the bridgestones seem pretty old, all have heaps of tread on them tho.. so if they are worth selling and someone wants them for their ute/4wd they are up for grabs..

now i think ill have to put 225/45 tyres on two of them for the back for the moment and the other two will sit around till i do the body of my car, would i have to get the guards rolled.. i have now a standard length diff with commodore disc brakes..

I have 15" wheels with 225/50 tyres up front and 265/50 at the rear (with flares). Others have fit bigger but these are around the biggest rolling diameter I can get under there without significant work.

Does look like about 5" backspace, that will tuck the wheels right in, may possibly help with tyre clearance too as long as they don't rub on the inside.

more shineys..

isnt too much room in between the calipers and the shocks..
Posted Image
Posted Image

not much room..
Posted Image

i couldnt take any measurements as of yet but the 15"s are gonna be a tight fit with the 5" backspace.. we will see..
she sit up really high now at the back.. i guess 30 years at standard suspension height would get a little saggy..
hopefully once the front is done.. a little way down the track she will sit nicely..

So its been a while in between updates.. spent the last 7 months researching and hording bits and pieces.. but now i have some progress to report.. yay

i picked up a cheap UC bomb to use the front suspension components as they are greater than the LX's and mine was a 4cyl anyhows..
ripped it apart and cleaned it up..
got all new bushes and balljoints replaced and put in new springs and shocks..
replaced the brakes with a hoppers kit..
this time after the run about waiting three weeks for my diff conversion to go in i decided to put the front end in myself..
after almost a week of swearing and shredded knuckles ive basically got it all in..

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

all that needs to be done now is to put the whiteline swaybar on.. just waiting on the wheel spacers to come in..
i bought 3mm ones which seemed to do the trick while the front end didnt have an engine sitting on it..
but after taking it for a run it was still rubbing on full lock on the upper control arm so going for 6mm..
i probably will put the swaybar in this weekend and the spacers will prolly get here on monday..
will drive around for a week and the following weekend ill get back under the car and check all the bolts havnt moved and are stil tight..
and probably will bleed the brakes again as they feel a little bit soft at the moment..

next step in my master plan is to get the bodywork done.. gotta somehow completely clean out the shed to make room for all the little bits and pieces that will be removed from the car and carefullt labled so i can figure out how to put it back together again.. jus like humpty dumpty..
it may be four or so months away as i wanna test out the new suspension.. lol..
but ill keep updating as i pull apart the car and sandblast it..

Man it would be easy to build a car living in the city.

Am I the only one thinking that this car was originally a Plus-4?

Interesting plans for the paint... You're going to have a lot of shit going on with flares, flames, stripes and a black bonnet...

Keep it up.

GPak's were LH, and they were all 202/Manuals. This started off as a 4cyl, and I'm pretty sure that the Plus4 had the same sort of stripes...

Could be onto something RIM, I was thinking at first that darkone had been given a bum steer with the info about it being a 4 pot to start with cause it clearly has G-Pak stripes, but the Tag numbers confirm that it was a 4.

Do we have a Plus-4 expert somewhere?

Would the car be worth more if it was returned to Plus 4 specs? I doubt it but they are very rare I think. I had never heard of them until I read about them on the forum.

I very highly doubt it would be worth more restored, who wants a 4 cyl LX? But you're right, there probably wasn't many made and most of them would've been modified by now for sure.
