Can anyone help me working out what gearboxs fit what bolt patterns on the 308 blocks.
As far as I know there are two blocks. One to suit Aussie 4 speeds and Trimatics and the other (Chev pattern) to fit the Turbo400 boxes.
What bolt pattern does a Borg Warner Super T10 require? Are these the gearboxs used in race A9X's?
I read the A9X came with a blister plate for the T10 but is it a big job to fabricate?
I am building my 77 LX into a circuit racer and need the best 308 engine / manual gearbox assembly.
Thanks for any advice provided.

Firstly the A9X T10 blister is a stamped sheet of metal used to increase the trans tunnel. Basically cut away the trans tunnel to clear the shifter mech once installed and fabricate a new blister or cut up a trans tunnel from another car with a bigger trans tunnel and patch it in.

I think you will find you can get a bell housing to match a T10 to both block bolt patterns.

The A9X was Aussie pattern.

Yes that is correct, there are 2 x gearbox patterns across 304/308 blocks from HT to VSIII, although there are many different blocks.

Gearboxes vs blocks goes like this (in basic order of first fitment):

TRIMATIC pattern: Powerglide, Saginaw, Trimatic, Aussie M21, ST10, T5

TH pattern: TH400, TH350, TH700R4, T5, 4L60E, Getrag, 6spd (whatever it was called).

When you are using one of the manual boxes you can use either block as Baron says as you just buy a TH pattern bellhousing to suit. Make sure you buy a full cable clutch style or hydraulic clutch setup though if using the TH pattern block as the original V8 clutch mechanism will have fitment issues with an aftermarket bellhousing.
If you wish to run a trimatic style block with original clutch setup with a ST10 or Muncie hunt down a HT/HG 253/308 Saginaw bellhousing as these look just like aussie 4spd bellhousings but suit the boxes and all the LH/LX clutch setup will work with it.
I would just buy an M22 rockcrusher Muncie. It'll last for ages behind a carby V8.

Thanks very much guys. This clears alot up.

Sorry, but what is the M22 Rockcrusher Munie? Is the M22 anything to do with the Aussie M21?
Can you buy these new or only reco?
Would this fit without tunnel treatment or should I expect to have to open up the tunnel for any decent manual?

Thanks again.

Regards

The Muncie is a GM 4 speed box, they use the same M20, M21 and M22 codes to distinguish different gear sets but are not the same as the Aussie boxes (much stronger, even used behind big blocks I believe). The M22 gearset has the same ratios as the M21 but with less angle on the teeth for extra strength, the noise it makes got it the nickname 'rock crusher'.
