The start of this year i thought to myself i would buy a car to do up with my son(14) so i looked at Torana's and was horrified at the prices. So i bit the bullet and found a car in Sydney flew up and had a look and bought it. Looked like it was worth $100.00 Bucks. anyway i know a guy who has a workshop in Sydney and he bought it back to Melbourne for me. Then i had a close look, 4 differnet colours, been resprayed 500 times, What had i done. Anyway no rust. so we started strippng it by hand. This is what we got. sorry the pics are small but we only had a mobile.

I don't want to even look at it now.

Good lookin car eh :spoton:

Anyway we pulled it to bits.

It had a 308 with a Turbo 400 so i had to put it right, so out it came, back to M21, so while it was out we did the engine.

Cost a Packet

The block was standard bore,

So we got it Tanked and machined, managed to only have it bored 20 thou. so still got heaps left.

Got a set of heads from Tm64 of ebay, Awsome, Ported and polished, the guy at the engine shop (speedworks) said he would charge $2000 to do that job, i don't know what they flow, anyway so we proceeded to get new everything.

Is your son allowed to drive a V8 in VIC?

Looks like your not leaving nothing to chance. Great build so far.

Er he won't be driving this one. i bought a LH SLR 3300 Manderin Red for him. Found it in a Barn in Bairnsdale. Factory Original. Even had a computer tape under the seat, with all the build specs on it.

Bit of rust to fix, hadn't been driven in 15 years, the guys brother bought it for him direct from Holden. One Owner. Still had the rego sticker in it curled up on the windscreen. Needed a Radiator and a Battery and a splash of oil and it started straight up and drove. 4 speed Manual aswell. Brakes a bit dodgey. But what do you expect. I'm just glad it had no snakes in it. He said he checked when we picked it up but, Didn't look underneath.

Here is a few more pics

We stripped the old paint ourselves and painted it ourselves, ( couldn't afford a panel beater/Spraypainter ) got quotes from $10000 to $25000 bare metal it fix it and spray it. It might not be perfect but it will do till the ecomony gets a bit better, not been such a good year for builders. anyway after what seems like thousands of hours stripping and fixing it up this is what we ended up with.

Carefull with triple springs, will knock a lobe off a cam in seconds. you only need those springs if you have massive lift (roller cam).

Speedworks! One of my best mates works there! Justin. They build some rip-snorting engines! So no doubt yours will not disappoint mate! My engine will be getting done down there as well!
