still gota do the diff but want to get the thing RWC first, just collecting diff parts at the moment.
Engine in.
Got a new Master Cylinder to go on
Radiator to get re done
Get the new headers installed.
Just putting the headliner in. Not as easy as you would think.
Just a update.
Ordered Screen seals, bailey channel. Rear Quater window rubbers, got the right brake pedal thanks TM64, and a spare V8 clutch pedal.
Underlay being installed, carpet on weekend.
Screens next week
Guy quoted me $220.00 to supply front and fit both front and rear. not bad i thought, i got a quote from windscreens Obrien and it was $495.00 what a rip off.

O'Briens sounds typical, but that $220 quote sounds insane! Are they new screens? Or at least a new front? That is awesome value. I'm paying $165 for the front screen alone (high quality new product, not the crappy chinese ones with the black lines around the outside)Guy quoted me $220.00 to supply front and fit both front and rear. not bad i thought, i got a quote from windscreens Obrien and it was $495.00 what a rip off.

Do what you want though.

Personally i would leave the scratch plates off. I could never quite get my head around drilling holes in the door to add a dust collector to protect the paint.
Do what you want though.
I agree, looks much better without.

I bought new door handles for my car, but I don't like how it doesn't really seal where it protrudes from the door skin. I'm taking about the bits that move when you lift the handle. It has some o-rings to seal it, but maybe it just needs time to settle.

Mate as you see in the pic they are noy bolted on yet but when i do on the weekend i will let you know if they stick out and yes the rubber seals are thick. So maybe they need time to settle down, but i will let you know.
Thanks Darren

A friend of mine from Melbourne who worked in Townsville was a Torana fan, so much so he purchased a new Plumdinger LC XU-1, then updated to the next model LJ when it was released, a Glacier White XU-1, and then a new Orchid Metallic SL/R 5000 all from Melbourne and drove them back to Townsville.
When he first got his 5000 he wasnt use to the look of the large spoilers and reckoned they were a police magnet so he took them off.
When I visited Townsville at the time in my Jade Green 5000 I caught up with him and took this photo of his 5000 without the spoilers, its a shame I didnt get both cars in the photo together.

Nice job on you're 5000 Darren, Do you know how many SL/R 5000s were produced in Orchid Metallic as I have only seen one in my time?, I know Ive led a sheltered life up here in QLD!!

Mate i have a picture of only one other, which is a L34, which lives in QLD.
I sold the guy a V8 clutch bracket and got talking and he asked me what i thought of the colour, and sent me a picture,
i was going to paint it red but original is best, i thought so that would be three that i know off. Unless that pic is of this car. The L34 hasn't been on the road for 10 years. Shame its a really outstanding car.
I must compliment you on the black hatch. I always wanted a black hatch. i had a black A9x when i was younger but can't
justify the 100K+ for one now.
Thanks for the comments and the picture of the SLR 5000
Mate can you remember if it had a aerial on the roof? mine has and it has been stamped out not drilled. and the front guard has no
hole for the aerial. do you know what happened to it? maybe it's this car, i got it in sydney tho. flew up on a friday morning and bought it,
the guy told me that it was a show car in it's day. Not that you would think that to look at it when i bought it. When we stripped it even the front crossmember (K frame) and control arms stub axles was in the factory finish paint. Orchid Metallic.

Guards didn't come with aerial drilled out when they were a replacement panel, due to some models not having radio etc.
So if your car went in for some panel work and you needed a guard, the panel beater would drill the hole for the aerial.

If your guard has never had a hole then its had a prang early in its life and had a new GM replacement guard fitted.

Mate i would agree if i hadn't taken it back to bare metal, it still had the factory undercoat and paint, but maybe I'm wrong. And the roof aerial has definitley been stamped out not drilled. i cant see any after market radio installer taking the roof lining out to stamp a aerial hole in the roof. So i just can't see it. But who knows the car is 35 years old.

Drilled a small pilot hole then put a punch and die type setup either side and wound it together.
Presto nice neat punched hole.
The kit had a few different sizes and shapes too.
