Hi,
Can anyone help me with the firing order for a VN 5lt? Is it the same as the old 308?

Cheers.

Isn't number 1 R/H front from sitting in the drivers seat or L/H front standing in front of the engine looking at firewall?

thats what i was told when i was puting the leads on.car wouldnt start and had trouble turning over and a friend said it sounds like the timing is out.i went next door and checked on a 308 hq, the firing order was the same and number was 180 degrees on the otherside of the cap.(being p/s at around 1 oclock facing the motor).when i changed leads round it started first time and caught me off gaurd.i had many people tell me that it was a 7 oclock looking at the motor.the vr motor i have are in the same spot as well.

Well I'm bloody confused now  . I have an old tune up book that shows number 1 r/h front from rear of the engine. i was just trying to check the plug leads are right as a couple were removed by the apprentice when we loaded the engine onto my ute (6 months ago). I assume that number 1 on a MSD dissy would be facing number 1 pot like the originals & this is wher the number 1 lead is but then the next 1 round, in a clockwise direction is number 6? But that's going to depend on where the dissy gear was when slotted in, I suppose.

it is on an old 308,i had 5 to check in the shed and were all at the front. thats why i thought it was right, but for a 304 it seems to be where i said.im not sure why the hq had it where they did,but good thing he did,or i wouldnt have worked it out.try it at the front,if it doesnt start then swap them over.

thats because 6 is opposite 2 on the dizzy.if 6 is at 9 0clock on the face then i think it is in the right position, clock wise from there should be3,1,2,7,8,4,5.check them, unless they wre all removed then there should be a pattern and only 1 or 2 wrong.

I found a pic on another forum that is from a service book. It shows the cylinder numbers & firing order the same as the old 308. However it also shows that the number 1 spot on the dissy is in the opposite spot to the old 308. I would post the picture but photobucket is in a go-slow, give me the shits mood right now.

Tony.

Here's the photo of the book describing the lead numbers on the dissy.
