Have the letter from Holdens with all VIN engine number and build date but can not find on the VIn disc.

Is this disc complete??

Assume build date on the Holden letter should be the same as on the List from the VIN disc

Hi John,

I bought the VIN disc off the net over 10 years ago and have the opposite problem. My car is on the disc but when I contacted Holden they did not have it on their records and so I cannot get a letter from them.

Holden said that their records were incomplete and they did not recognise the VIN disc as being valid because it was not a controlled copy.

Shannons also did not recognise the disc for the same reason and insured the car accordingly (much less than it would have been insured for).

You can try getting a certificate from Holden Historical Services, which might give you some extra info.

Having a letter from Holden is the best verification you can have.

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi Liz,

Thanks for your reply. I have the letter from Holdens for my car with all numbers matching and tags never been off car.

It does appear that this VIN disc is a Warranty or service record and is not a complete list of all cars by VIN.

I was just trying to get further info on the car.

Regards

John D

Have uploaded a copy of the VIN CD to the internet for everyone.

It is in TIF format so you'll need an appropriate viewer to look through the pages.

If you want to search it you'll need to convert to OCR-PDF.

Me and Josh will be working on getting it all into an online database to make it searchable online.

The other files there are random stuff that came on the CD like placement of GTR badge etc.

Click here to go to the download area.

Can this be made a sticky?

Thanks DanWA. I did buy the VIN disc many years ago but buggered if I can find it now so I've downloaded the one you kindly provided. Thanks again :)

Cheers,

Liz :)

Hi all I know this is an old thread but Ive been looking at some LC vins and the LC file from the drop box dont have the same option code break down as the LJ's. They seem to have 3 explanation pages while the LC has one that does not match the option codes for the VIN im looking up.

What am I missing here.

Cheers

I assume you are referring to the METSBAC codes for LC.

The following is for 6 cyl models

Model

2 = 4dr S or SL Sedan

3 = 2 dr GTR Sedan

4 = 2dr S Sedan

Engine

2 = 2250cc

3 = 2600cc later 2850cc

4 = 2600S later 2850S

7 = 3100cc XU1

Transmission

1 = M15 3spd manual

2 = OPEL M20 4spd/ later GMH M20 4 spd in S, SL & GTR

4 = OPEL M20 4spd/ later GMH XU1 specific M20 4spd in XU1

7 = M40 Trim-Matic 3spd auto

Steering

0 = std steering

Brakes

1 = STD Drum front brakes

3 = J52 Power assisted Disc front brakes

Axle

A = 2.78:1 ratio

C = 3.08:1 ratio

E = 3.36:1 ratio

Cooling

0 = STD Ventilation

Thank you Dave, that is exactly what I was looking for.

One question, next to the (SDLR) dealer code column on the VIN sheets is a column titled "Z" with various numbers in it, any ideas as to its meaning.

Cheers

Those are Sales Zones. GMH had a Zone office in each State through which Dealer orders were placed.

Basically

1 = Brisbane (QLD & NT?)

2 = Sydney (NSW & ACT)

3 = Melbourne (VIC & TAS)

4 = Adelaide (SA & NT?)

5 = Perth (WA)

Yel327 may be able to confirm the Zone/s used by NT Dealers

You will find sometimes the numbers are replaced with letters.
