this was how it was.......

This is how it is..........

progress is slow, still a bit of welding and grinding to tidy it up, but its turning out good, and the panels fit

Another View....

I'm looking at refabricating the C pillars so I can have the seam back in them and cutting the guards to accommodate for the 17" x 10"s. I'm taking my 9" to the fabricators so they can weave there magic. I'm waiting on some bits and bobs from Mall Wood for my TKO, and striping down the UC front end, painting and modifying it to A9X "type".
Just a question for the educated, with the steering arms, keeping them UC with the one tonner stubs, they have an issue with bump-steer, the question is with keeping them (front end) standard "UC" or "LX" and lowering the car does this change the geometry and create bump-steer???? Also with the UC steering arms and one tonner stubs, how bad or dangerous is it (bump-steer) and what is the common fix other than original A9X arms???
Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul love the work in answer to your questions I never had A9X steering arms on mine for 15 + years and I never thought of my car as dangerous, and you could say that I drove my car to the limit and beyond, I found the biggest issue was tire wear, I was lucky to get 10,000km out of a set of front tires, ditto the back but that was due to 'other' reasons. The common other fix was go without as I did or bend your old ones, a definit no no So really if you want your HQ stubs you need to budget on some reproduction A9X steering arms, and if you are going for big tires and HP you need bigger beefier HQ stubsI'm looking at refabricating the C pillars so I can have the seam back in them and cutting the guards to accommodate for the 17" x 10"s. Looks like you had good body to start with. Not as much rust repair work as mine needs and heaps less than a few others on this site have taken on.
Keep up the good work and keep us posted with progress pics (says he who hasn't put up any pics

What you see in that comparison photo is the worst of the rust, and I think that was because of that minor panel damage it had.
Yeah it must be update time for the Phoenix, the suspense is killing me.

Hi Cruiza,
I will chase some reproduction A9X steering arms, 10,000K's out of a set of tyres doesnt bother me, as this wont be a daily, but un even ware will give me the shits.
Paul.

Thanks to ASS308 for his pointing in the right direction, I now have these.

The UC rack rebuilt

Front end stripped, and at the powder coaters, he'll burn it, sandblast it & powder coat it, should get it back next week.

I am going to see the panel beater in the morning, apparently he's been busy and he said that the rear end/hatch area is all but steeled up, welded and ground, this includes the C pillars.

I have my reservations, just dont want to be disappointed.
Cheers Paul.

Hi mate, hope ya don't mind me asking, but where do you get these and how much are they ? I need a couple of pairs.
Cheers, H
Hi LH_SLR's,
Mate I picked those pricey little numbers up from Harrop for $360 delivered to my door.

Thanks MRLXSS,
I cant wait to get the car back so I can do more. I dropped the 9" and an old banjo (A pick up from streetheadquarters, Thanks Pera) off at the fabricators on the weekend, should get that back in a fortnight with 1/2" studs chev pattern and VS disc brakes, would be happy when I pick that up.
I'll post photos when I get it.

Cheers Paul.

Looks like your cooking with some very tasty ingredients, when do you expect to get it finished?

Was hoping for toranafest, but there is no hope for that now, so Im sticking to the original plan of early December, but then again is a Torana ever finished????
Im going to the panel beater again this morning, I hope he has progressed some more.
