Sand Blasting smaller objects

Years ago a friend of mine who lived in Milton/Ulladulla NSW had a radiator repair business and he made his own sand blaster by using an old spray gun. He used it to strip paint from radiators etc and then solder pin holes and replace top and bottom tanks etc that he had reconditioned. I sat with him on many a Saturday afternoon helping him drink beers whilst we did quick repairs for tourists that struck radiator trouble. Little did I think to find out exactly what he did to the spray guns we used. :(
I am not worried about the legalities etc and not looking for legal info.
I just want to make a small sand blaster by using an old spray gun - presumably one takes the needle out of it.
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

Not answering the question but this on ebay seems cheap enough instead maybe?
Thanks mate, I just had a look at your suggestion but its not what I am after.
Hopefully a forum member might have seen what I am after being used and knows a little about it.
The spray gun using the paint pot worked extremely well for light duty blasting.
Cheers and thanks

These ones in a the link might be a better option than the first link, I havent used one but have spoken to guys who do use them and they are apparently great for spot blasting.

Price is comparable to a cheap spray gun and its designed for the job, if you removed a needle from an old spray gun then your material control is gone and I would imagine you would need a big fluid tipped gun (ie.2.8-3.0mm) to be able to get any grit to pass through.
I think I will purchase one of these ebay style spot blasting gun soon myself!

You can/could buy sand blasters that used a paint pot to hold the sand.

ls2lxhatch I will ask some of the local tool companies here to see what they have that takes a paint pot to hold the sand too.
Cheers guys you have got me on the right path.

I was concerned that people would start lecturing over various matters.
Great pics and info MY V6 OK thanks heaps
EDIT** whilst I am asking questions and people are obviously in the mood to answer, what media blasting material are you using and where do ya get it??? I am reasonably confident that brickies sand wont be suitable.
Free tip, if using sand sieve it well even if it looks ok, I used to work with a very large sandblaster (space suit and breather was required) even the large blasters block up easily if the sand is not sieved so the small units would be much worse.

Not sure if you are still after one, but I used to work for a company called Oliver Spray Equipment. They would sell them. Its a Samson Brand, they used to sell for around $100. You can buy 25kg bags of fine Garnet Sand for around the $20 mark from them too, or they also sell glass beads if you wish to go that way. They should be able to hook you up for around $120 - $150. I havent worked there for over 9 years so pricing may be a little different now, but the big bonus is they used to stock the replacement tips too, plus parts, so no probs with spares down the road. They have a branch in Adelaide and Victoria, but Im sure they will ship anywhere.
From past experience in the industry, its a bad idea to buy one from Supertheif or places like that as there are no spares and you will get caught out, so for a little extra $ you can have a reliable product with spares available. Dam its sounding like I still work there LOL.

Using sand can result in a horrible death.

Stick to commercially available blasting media.
