Its good to see i sold it to someone who is going to look after it and return it to better than its former glory :D

I still think it would have looked good with a set of 28x9's under the ass and an intercooler set in behind the grille :D

Gday Brad,

How's things?

I reckon it would have looked awesome in your build, the car is as you had described, no surprises, couldn't be happier,

Time for a paint job and fit to car. Flywheel still at machine shop, running blue flywheel, but waiting for machiner to drill flywheel to suit my Exedy red pressure plate.

What's the story with the oil pump cover? That some kind of aftermarket oil pump?

Even just that balancer looks soooo sweet. A touch of class :P

Ohhh and what do you mean by "painted in wrinkle finish" regarding the glovebox?

Looking good! Love a fresh engine!

If you dont mind me asking, what did you think about Brinks Performance? Who did you use for the machining?

What brand of balancer is that?

Hi Heath, yes, that's JP oil pump, it's how they come these days.

Wrinkle finish , it's VHT High Temp finish for rockers covers, was just sitting in the shed

Went all out on the balancer, have lost too many of those in the past, was kinda expensie, but good insurance I think,

Hi Carmelo,

Brinks were great, Tony knows his stuff, and was very thorough, he has a lot of his own machines there for boring and honing, clean workshop as well.

He suggested the two dowels on crank to help keep the flywheel wher it should be.

That's a Romac, I've use all kinds before, Powerbond etc, but Romac are the ones that seem to hang together.

I'll have to take it for a run down your way soon, but will be a bit of a pain as I have 3.9 gears in the LSD.

Cheers Simon, good to hear good things about Brinks. Will keep them in mind now.

3.9's will be good for overtaking those 90km/hr driving mongrels though. :spoton:

I might be up there soon, during the school holidays at the earliest. Been wanting to go to the Carby Centre for some time now, plus to get some other stuff we dont have in this raging town.

Cheers.

Gday

Yes, did kind of get out of control. All up cost for parts and machining was around $5300. Included $200 for donor black motor for crank, and $200 to dismantle and check the LSD, engine builder did this for me. Around $600 on head work.

This amount included all parts, clutch and pressure plate, flywheel bolts, push rods, all new and all machining and balancing.

Budget was a little short of that, but I hadn't build a good 6 for, well 25 years , I think it is worth it to do it right.

Hey Brad,

Engine is back in the car and cam is run in. Initial carb was 600 square bore, which was fine at 2000 rpm, but under that engine wasn't too happy. I have to put a kit through my 465 and I'll use that. Engines sound awesome (well through headers I guess any motor does). Very strong motor revs well.

Did have some issues at first start up, lift of cam caused roller rockers to bind on and hit rocker posts. One of these broke about 3 minutes after initial start up. All roller rockers have now been machined to ensure clearance, I should have really seen this on build. With hydraulic lifters with no oil it wasn't apparent. I usually would use a solid lifter to check clearance, but didn't and caused myself a heap more work.

Running electronic distributor, this is now graphed to suit cam. I need to get exhaust fitted and the car is ready to go back on the road.

I had to fit a spacer before the engine fan as the Romac balancer would foul on the steel fan. I have given the sides of the car a quick straighten and coat of paint. Passenger door had some creases and drivers side quarter had a long gouge. Added rear spoiler, but I don't think I will leave that on. I like the shape more without it.

LSD has been rebuilt and now back in the car running 3.9 gears. I changed steering rack as I had one here and the one in the car had some slack in the ends. GTR dash is in and wired and all gauges work. However GTR water temp reads a little hotter than it actually is, hence the aftermarket water temp under the dash. Repro GTR console and wheel are fitted and I have LC GTR door trims to go in. Wheels will be the '75 Sprintmasters that were on the car.
