I now have to work out what 1" masters I have ABS or Non ABS. They have 2 lines out of the front I am sure I traced straight to the front discs so that one should be Non ABS..Will check the wreckers at the wekend.

I just bought one new from repco PBR for $175. Its a P10050 I think from memory.

Currently doing the same conversion Rory, except mine has the bent pushrod. Already have the dual diaphram booster, just need some rear drum set ups off a HQ or etc. Anyone got any?

ABS was introduced on the VP in Aug 1992...so my VN one is OK...Have to check the other one.
Does the P10050 suit rear drums as well WaZ?..Thought it was for rear discs...??

OK..I have 2 x VN V8 master cylinders..Non ABS so that all works fine..Didnt get a definative answer on the one line M/C from anyone including PBR. What you are after is the M/C with 3 outlets...2 close together at the front...one larger at the rear. These all have C/P of 2.4...seems to be what you are after...The single lines ones have a C/P of 3.1...later pressure point....= heavier cars...utes,Statesmans etc.
I now have 3 Dual boosters..I will get all 3 cut and shut and one will be for sale...with a 15/16" M/C. PBR says the 1" will require less pressure and promotes more "feel" in the pedal...the 15/16" one is a higher pressure push. They also said..unlike stated above...and I am just quoting what they said...the difference in pedal travel distance in the pedal in 15/16" and 1" will be almost unnoticable...I will look at that when the 2 cars are together and working....
Another thing PBR did tell me...with Nissan 4 spot calipers the only M/C to use is the 1" one due to the increased volume of fluid need to fill the void.
Interesting.....

Just did a conversion on mine today. VP dual diaphram booster and ford 1" master cylinder. Had the bent push rod booster in mine, tried to swap it over with the new booster, but couldn't. Cut both push rods and welded torana end to commodore booster. Had to change the brake line fittings and re do the double flares. Pretty straight forward really. Brakes are heaps better, but still have the same problem. Because of the size of the cam I have very little manifold vacuum so 3/4 of the way through a heavy application it starts to run out of air, looking into a vacuum tank.

This thread was very healful, here's a bad photo -

So aside from ditching the proportioning valve, what do you gain with the newer master cylinder? Or is the booster the main reason for the change?

I'm led to believe that the dual diaphragm booster (late LX to VR) is essentially the same item internally, just different push rod lengths and mounting position for master cyclinder.

Its newer, deletes the prop valve..one less thing to fail...and the M/C is specifically designed for rear discs to give near correct pressure proportioning....and up to 1" to help with the 4 spot fronts.
