i have read through the forum, several times now
it seems a 8 inch rim with 4 1/2 inch backspace,running a.235/40/17.thats a 617mm rolling diameter.fits in the front a a lx torana.with maybee minor srcubing sometimes
my brake assembly comes out 1 inch more than standard.so im thinking i get 1 inch more back space and get 5 1/2 inch backspace ?.
if the answer is yes.ive done the calculations and a 17x8 rim, with 5 1/2 inch back space will be 25mm,wider than the rim on the car at the moment.the tyre will also be 12mm bigger in diameter.the car also has to be lowered yet, around 45mm.
it looks like 1 inch wider will be a tight fit.does any think 1 wider will be to big ?.

Your numbers seem right to me. Scrubbing at the front on the flare and at the rear on the firewall lip (both only with low speed tight turning) will be the main issue. Increasing the rolling diameter and moving the outside of the tyre out (wider wheel and/or shallower backspace) will both very quickly make this problem worse so be a little careful with what you choose. Clearance with the wheels pointing forward and up inside the flare shouldn't be an issue.

thanks 76lxhatch.
you are right with everything u say.its why im worried about being "greedy".with my front offset.at the front i have very little original metal behind the flare.and im prepared to trim the flare if i have to.
the back side is my biggest worry.if it hits ill be held up for ages getting a new offset.
the tyre guy is coming around tomorrow to measure up.ill see what he says.but id love just 1 extra inch wider than it is at the moment to start out with.its 62mm from bolt up face to the edge of the rim atm.id like to get it to 87mm.
ill see how i go

Sounds like a good plan! Will be interested to hear what they think. Saw a couple of flared Toranas at the big show last weekend but they all have quite small wheels and tyres on the front still

front 17x8 zero offset lol
i asked them to check again, cause i dont think they will fit.how ever.im not the expert they are.if they do fit ill be more than happy. :)

Zero offset = dead centre, so backspacing is 5.5" rear and 4.5" front (rims are generally 1" wider overall than the width which is measured inside the beads). Sounds right to me although the rears may not quite fill out the guards if you still have a standard width diff.
