Thanks everybody for the positive comments. Hopefully this sunday we will get to do the silver "blackouts" so ill try to get some more photos. At the very least im aiming to get better pics of the car in the sunlight, the photos ive given just dont show it well enough.

Got some photos of the body in the sunlight. Unfortunately they are not quite at the stage i was hoping. Mid week i proceded to take the masking off in preparation for putting on the nosecone and applying silver. Upon looking at the masked areas around the panels, i found some areas had gone on too thick and had dried leaving a bead or paint line. So saturday, instead of applying silver, we spent the day getting all these areas right. We removed the boot/decklid and heavily sanded the fender catwalks and the drain trough around the boot, making sure no remnants of paint lines were visible. Each door was checked and any any excess paint cut back. We endevoured to not take to much paint off, but unfortunately some areas needed a light dusting of paint to get it back to a level were we are happy. So it was re-masking the whole car up again! Any runs from the previous weeks painting were also cut back and you can see some of the more dull areas in the photos. Overall it felt like a step back, but Im now very confident that this extra day was worth it. Every gap is perfect ,as is all the panel edges. There are no drips, beads, lines marks or other rough areas anywhere on the car. Other than the odd bit of sh!t that landed in the paint during spraying, the paint looks tops. What you can see in the photos hasnt had a final buff, so there are flat areas, and areas of orange peel. Just as a preview, my mate cut and polished a small area to show me what the end result will look like. Wow is all i can say.

Had a bit of time off from the car, half due to crazy work commitments ,half due to some busy party commitments. Anyways back to it and it was on with the silver!! Took us a full day to apply those tricky little bastard masks and to wrap the rest of the car up in prep for painting.

Please note my mate being a dickhead in the background!
Unwraping it a couple of days after spraying the silver was like being a child unwrapping a huge christmas present, and just as exciting. Overall was pretty happy with the results, not much bleed at all, a touch fuzzy in areas but a lot of that will clean up when we cut the paint.

Again ,apologies for such crap photos. Will do a heap more after she has been polished.

Looks tops mate, well done. :spoton:
I am sure your patience is well worth it, no point cutting corners (especially with a colour like
black that shows all).

Gday again.
2 weeks ago we cut the whole car back with 1200. Very disheartening day, the car looked pretty good and here we were taking off all the shine and making it look bloody sh!thouse. During the week I fitted the door locks and door rubbers. After a lot of mucking about I got the rubbers to fit (also after drowning them in rubber magic), but you still have to slam the crap out of the doors to do so. Not great but what can you do. I also fitted the boot seal, it doesnt fit very well at all, was about 70mm too long in the loop which i had to cut and re-glue and the lid still doesnt shut properly. Very shoddy work Rare spares.BUT, after todays work im a lot happier man. My mate who sprayed the car, came back and polished the paint. Here is the result.

To say I am extremely happy is an absolute understatement.Ive put a bit of sweat into this car, but I have to admit, this great result is down firstly to the panel beater i used (this car is very very straight) and to my mate, who put in a bucket load of blood sweat and tears into this car. A few other things are moving too, the engine has been picked up and is being reconditioned by a local place, should be back within a month (not in a rush). Ive also recieved my new seat covers. They are made from genuine old stock chamois vynil, and have come up very well indeed. Next week ,mate comes back and finishes the bonnet/nosecone, then out comes the suspension and diff.
Still a million jobs to do, but its starting to come together.

I havnt read the whole thread, but I just flicked through quickly... To be honest when I saw the first pics of the paint (un-polished) I thought it was abit average... but wow looks awesome after a good cut, buff n polish!

Thanks for all the great comments. Im going old school and have some nice hotwires to go on it. Its not everybodys cup of tea, but i still would like to keep a more 'original' type of look to the car, so no bling.
As for the giant skull, I thought it may attract a comment or two being in the background of some of the photos. I bought it a couple of months on evilbay. Best $20.15 cents Ive ever spent. I did have to go to adelaide to get it though. So a mate and I grabed a ute ,drove there in the morning, back in the afternoon. Attracted some funny looks on the way home, especially when we stopped at the big Koala for some photos of us with the big skull in front of the big koala. I think it came off the front of a theatre restaurant called 'night train'. We used it for a really big fancy dress Horror party that we threw back in september and now for my daughters Halloween birthday party. Every bloke needs one for his backyard! Anyways its now mine and thats just one more big thing that Victoria has pinched from SA. :)
