Wow, that must feel good. Looking awesome, and you are really getting places now. The thought of one fat, black, angry SLR on the road again is a nice one, :buttrock:

What a brilliant job you are doing, patience and attention to detail are obviously attributes you possess plenty of.

Thanks for the comments fellas.

Torry Freak, Ive got a set of cheviot hotwires for the car. They are 7 x 14 and 8 x 14, but they need polishing and painting, so thats probably going to be one of the next things to do. They may not be everybodys of tea, but I definitely want more of the "classic look".My ideal rims would be a set of the monaro types that appear on a lot of the l34,s but i believe you need to go to a HQ stud pattern for those, and i dont have the cash to get a custom set made.

Mondie, ive got to have patience, everything takes soooo long to put back together, seems like ive got to do it all 2 or 3 times to get it right.Thank god for this forum! To be honest the car comes up pretty well in photos, but there are still lots of little areas that im not happy with. Black paint is a nightmare to keep clean and scratch free!!

Car is looking great Drfegg. The hotwires should look alright, are you keeping the car unflared? be very tempting to fit a set of 15" GTS style wheels or maybe even a set of 15" hotwires..you can always change the wheels at a later anyway. Keep up the good work! looking forward to reading more about it soon. :)

Yeah mate, will have flares, they were on when i bought it. The cuts on the rear quarter are pretty good and we neatened them somemore, new(er) front gaurds where cut to suit. New Wilsons flares (we painted them when we did the body) going on it. Will have 265 on the rear, 245 on front. I wouldnt have put them on if I had a choice, but seeing as I didnt, they should look pretty tough!

Hi mate, this is coming on great. I know where you've been, where you are and where you're going to be with this project. Lots of work but it will pay off at the end. Keep up the great work.

Time for an update, its getting there but there is still lots to do. Tank still needs to go in, as does the front brakes. Vynils are all glued in, yet to put in the headlining, then the screens can go in. Still trying to get the engine set-up correct. I need the correct heater hoses pre 27a but no one makes them (yet) so im going to have to try a different configuration. Ive also gone back to an original mechanical fuel pump so i have to work out if the original rigid fuel line (to the carbie) is available. The rear bar is at the chromers so i pick that up in two weeks and I have to go around and pick up my extractors that i got ceramic coated. The next tasks on the list are pedals, booster/resevoir, exterior mirrors ,grill ,indicators and tank. Im still shying away from the electrical, its sitting in place (sort of) in the car staring at me and im trying to build up the courage to get in there and do it. Might leave that one to last.
Anyway, the car looks alright i reckon, the wheels have come up well , I just wish they were 15" but that might be one for the future when i have a bit more cash. Im also hoping the car will settle a bit when on the road, the gaps are quite big from the gaurds to the tyre but this should improve (uncut springs) Oh yeah, Lessons learnt #362 If your intending to fit flares to your torana, try not to get UC torana rear doors. They have a intrusion beam inside that makes it almost impossible to get one of the nuts onto a flare bolt. Bloody tricky ,took me nearly 2 hours and very nearly caused me to damage parts of the car in anger and frustration.

I think I just did something in my duds - that's one sweet looking car.

Are you going to do something with the bonnet hinges? Or have you already and I can't tell on my screen? Also, is the flare fitting kit the standard Wilson's kit? I will be purchasing mine from him next week (birthday money...).

The bonnet hinges have just been cleaned. I will get them anodized sometime in the future. The flares are a standard wilson kit, they fit really well. The only thing i did extra was to get some black zinc washers for under the head of the allen bolts, spreads the load better and helps protect the paint. I also am intending to make up a couple of small brackets to secure the flare to the back edge of the rear doors.
The flares may look a little dull compared to the panels, they have been painted, but have not been cut back as yet. This will bring the shine out much better. Im also planning on continueing the silver over the flares, but again, this is a job for after i get the car running.

Yea the thick silver strip across the bottom was what I was referring too, took me abit I was lookin at the pic and something just didn't look right then I realized the bottom of the flares weren't painted :)

Top job man, looking forward to seeing it finished :)

Best looking 4WD I ever saw. If I were you I would had gone with Koni's, Bilsteins or original torana shocks and springs and left the Old Man Emu's out LOL. Just kidding, just kidding, just kidding.

The car is looking sensational and is a credit to you and should settle with road use like you stated. You might want to double check that the front springs are seated correctly in the lower control arms. If my hatch looks as straight as yours I'll die a happy man.

Yeah, I know, im not terribly happy with the height its sitting at, But at the moment thats where its at. Im fairly sure the springs are seated properly but when it get to the suspension place to adjust the shims, alignment etc, ill get them to double check. Its definitely the thing thats letting the car down at the moment.....

Sweet ride you have there looks like theres not much to go, as for the UC rear doors the late LXs like mine have also got intrusion bars.

Update time...
Lots more done. Today I got the windscreen and rear window put in. Those rares locking strips are bloody awful and the completely wrong profile. Lucky I had a really good installer whos done plenty of torries, but even he struggles with them and hates having to put them in. The rubbers themselves are also of poor quality and dont seat well in the corners not to mention not allowing the chrome corner pieces to fit without looking like sh!te. Really poor effort.
Interior just about in, with only the front half of the carpet and the front seats to go. Im no expert but i manged to get my old hoodlining back in without major hassles.Takes a while though and the tip of using bits of cutoff pinchweld works really well (learnt from boomfunks website). Anybody know where to buy new black (grained ) parcel shelfs?????
Ive been trying to get the original fuel/manifold/water heater set-up correct . Its pretty hard when you cant get the original rigid fuel line(to carbie) or heater hoses (pre 27a). Hopefully Mick will have those on the list to make next!!!
So ive just used flexible fuel line and cut up and joined parts of my old heater hoses to make do.
Installing a new 3 core radiator, but be warned, your original fan shroud will no longer fit without a bit of re-engineering. (wish i realized this before buying one..) Possibly i can make it work.
Overall got a lot of extra stuff done and im liking the look of the car . Ive decided that im going to get the springs cut or buy new lower springs, to get the height down a bit. I am worried though if i do this wether it will still pass roadworthy.
I would like to get them done while getting the alignment done but as this will be before the roadworthy, I may have to then change them back to original.... dilemma here.
Next on the list, re-spraying the console chamois, pick up the paint tomorrow and then brakes to get hooked up.

looking good, i would just leave them springs for now, put lowered coils in after inspection, but then again all depends on how low you want to go?

Looking good mate! i would just do as 2wild4u advised and fit the lowered springs after you've done the RWC.
