Matt: I wish i would have known THAT :P

The problem with the router engraver ( well our one.. cause it's big and clunky and old and we dont know how to sharpen the cutters well!) is that i cant get a REALLY fine cutter to engrave smalll letters! I have some WICKED ideas for a really funky dash that could have used high resolution printing!

Thanks why-psi! - That's the result of everyone's awesome help with the electrics :)

Cheers!

Nice work Tiny, great looking dash.

and I have to agree with you, doing auto electrical work can be so confusing and difficult.

Yeah mate, the thing downstairs here, is like a laser printer for metal... We make all the inspection plates for the transformer with it.

Its basically plugged into a computer, almost like a printer. You have a .DWG file with the shape of the metal in it, and the print you want done. Then the little laser goes nuts for a while, and wha-la! all done

Matt: Yep i know the beastie! Does it print in colour or only etch in black? gotto love CNC!

Mick: Thanks mate! I dont mind the work, i just hate the locations you have to get in to! LOL! ( I aint built for beneath dashes and in engine bay nooks and crannies!)

Todd: Ta mate :)

The GTS: - Thanks mate! I'm considering pulling the dash out of the Torana to give it the same treatment... being and SL/R it's a silver dash anyway, so making an SNA fascia might look pretty good! That's a project for the future though :)

Cheers!

And the final Pics!

First one is the Dash Completed with ignition off!

Same picture with Ignition on! YES! it WORKS!

Now for the dramas!

I found that the AU Thermofans draw around 44 Amps on startup but die off to 19 Ampos when running... of course this didnt do the 30A fuse up front any good! Even a 40A would not hold it for the startup time!
I asked a few mates and swapped the automotive standard fuse for the old style glass fuse and a 35A glaqss fuse holds the power no drama! So far so good :) - That was the first problem solved!

Next.. and the most frusrating part.... the god damned LEDs!

I Bought Jaycar 12v LEDs which include a resistor already installed in the -ve wire. Turns out their soldering job isnt so good! Well.. ishould say strain relief because I broke the wiring on 4 of the LEDs while installing the dash! THe problem was.. they were one at a time! Each time i pulled out the fascia to do one... the next one would break! Word of advise........ treat them CAREFULLY!

Anyway.. it's Done now, EVERYTHING works including my Brake fail light ( never before connected) and i'm really happy!

There are a few things i would do differently, but all in all it's good now :)

Ahh i thought he was showing how much the car owes him with the 80k ;)

Dash looks a treat mate, excellent effort, all the hard work has paid off for you. What did you use around the outside , sealing the dash pad to the facia, i noticed without it then with it all enclosed , very neat.

Gday Rob, THe surround is part of the dash, it's a plastic fascia that is part of the standard dash! It's probably something i could custom make as well.. but that's the last thing i need to do! Just gave it a quick coat of paint and slapped it back in!

Thanks for the kind words guys! Hopefully get to give it it's first big run down the 1/4 on the 28th!

Cheers!
