Its complete from disc to disc, but needs a rebuild.
I don't know how it was converted as I can't see any welds etc.
Just wondering about past experiences any of you guys have had with a similar diff.
Is it worth using?
Will get some pics up after the weekend if wanted.
Cheers.

Discs were and LX option.
Do you know the disc diameter and thickness. Might shed some light
on the type used if it was a conversion.
They are getting a bit light on these days. I believe Chopper was looking
at a run of discs a while back. (???)

I just assumed it had been converted.
I don't if its torana stud pattern either.
Just went and had a look, had to move some shit...damn shed...
Measurements are 15mm thick rotor and roughly 10 inches diameter.
Dodgy phone pics...
Has a 2 near the centre.

Standard LX had the banjo as far as I know.
I don't know what pattern it is i'll check when I get back home after the weekend.
I got it from a wreckers in newcastle who said he found it at a house he was getting a car from.

The only LX to have rear disc brakes was the A9X.
The first 'normal' Torana to have rear disc brakes as an option was the UC & these were fitted to the 'baby' 10-bolt Holden diff. The axles & caliper brackets etc. will all fit straight onto an LH/LX Banjo housing. As far as I can see that is what you have in those pictures.

The UC had both versions. The early ones were front mounted & the late UCs were rear mounted (or could have been the other way around).i always thought holden calipers were in the rear side of the diff housing not in front. Cheers

I'll have to check the stud pattern tomorrow.
Also, would it need an eng. cert. if I decide to use it?
Cheers.

As far as i'm concerned, "No" is the answer. Also, would it need an eng. cert. if I decide to use it?
Cheers.
Its a standard diff with standard factory parts bolted on, no mod!
Just went through the diff rebuild and swap myself, one of the best upgrades i've done to the Hatch.
Here's my thread on the build and swap, http://www.gmh-toran.......st&p=285128
Only downfall is the replacement disc's are no longer available, so you need to find good secondhand spares, getting tougher.
Their has been mention of new ones but nothings happened yet

Can you use new HZ/WB examples? By redrilling the disc to Torana pattern and machining the OD down to suit?
The other method could be to get your axles changed to HQ stud pattern (run HQ front discs) and run 14" wheels. Then you could use HZ/WB rear disc setup (discs and caliper carrier). I think you'd be able to use the UC caliper and handbrake mechanism (from a 20 year old memory of these).

I'd prefer to keep the early stud pattern if I can.
Can you get blank discs and get them drilled to suit?

No. The calipers foul if you try that.

The discs should be available for sale later this year. Initially, 8 will be available for sale.

I wont be using that diff to start with, I don't need it for a near stock 253 and it's one less thing I have to pay for, for now...
Interested in discs for it though.
