Welcome to Drag Racing Dennis !
Sorry I couldn't resist
Ok, I have got a chisel and flogged it into the block each side of the register to tighten up the cap fit before line honing in the past, a bit rough yet effective.
If it was me I would bail out of that block. A line hone moves the crank up into the block and I wouldn't want to do it more than once to the one block, in fact I try to avoid that machining operation if at all possible.
I have a couple of blocks here if you need one, I may be up your way later this week. What bore is your current combo ?

Think it was line bored/honed 10thou cylinder bore is 20 thou over was hoping to get some more life of it pm me about those blocks if you do come up this way probably be handy to have a couple of spares if you have no need for them

Gary,
When you put a lot of power through a torque converter with reduced volume (a high stall converter is smaller in body size) it builds up a lot of heat and pressure. In some cheaper built converters this results in the body expanding thereby causing the crank to move forward. This load is then borne totally on the thrust face of the rear main bearing.
To combat this converter manufacturers build 6mm thick plates into the front and rear of the converter. These are referred to as anti-ballooning plates.
It is now quite common in really powerful turbocharged and supercharged 308's to replace the thrust bearing with a Torrington roller bearing capable of taking the load from expanding converters !

Anything that can be done to cool the converter saving it from expanding?

No, the fluid just can't get through the converter quick enough.
Its much worse with a transbrake.

when you get it back together can you post a few pictures of the trimatic setup as I'm trying to fit a B&M shifter to my trimatic and I'm having all sorts of problems. The adaptor i bought off ebay isn't even close to fitting and the original don't work
either. Also I'm worried about my cable having to go past the tailshaft. (its a rear fitting cable).

After the crank thrust bearing issue i have it back together with another crank and fitted new rings and bearings also went to 002 oversize cam bearings which should fix a oil pressure issue i was having should have everything bolted back up for a saturday fire up and tune and test drive to see how the new trimatic and converter feel there are a couple of car meets coming up i will take it for a spin to before i take it back to willowbank for another blast

I like this car, nothing over the top, just simple & all business. And you kept the rectangle LH headlights

Mine still has the rectangular headlights too. In the early days I hated them and wanted to change to the LX ones. These days they have grown on me and they will be staying on the car.
