Hey,
I,v had my car out abit lately and it attracts alot of attention, the one thing that I have heard abit that really f#@ks me off is when people look at the rego tag and see its rego'd as a sunbird then ya get the ol "oh oh it's just a sunbird", I dont care if it started its life as a 4 or 6 cos its an 8 now and I have cut it up (slr replica) n put a 9 inch in it and disk brakes n blah blah. why does it matter? does anyone else with a sunbird find this? can those who feel a slr rep that started its life a sunbird rather than a torana is not as good shed some light on this for me?

My "Sunbird" :D

Mighty fine looking Sunbird mate. I'd have it.

Don't think it matters at all really, but it would deter some I guess..

Don't stress at all mate! Who gives a FCK if its a sunbird! No doubt its about 5 Million times better than whatever they are driving!!

I would take a heavily modified Sunbird, over a concourse SLR any day of the week! You can really enjoy the trill of the Light car - big engine!

If they have to look at tags to get there "opinion" on a car then i would not worry about there comments at all. Still says Torana on the Compliance Plate.

Don't worry rookie, most of these people wouldn't know shit from clay.

They're just armchair critics and jealous of what you have. :D

You have an Australia Muscle Car, a V8 Holden Torana.

Enought said,

Cheers Mick.

yeah I used to get that, now I rarely mention that mine is a sunbird.
If it wasnt for the rego slip no one and I mean no one would be any the wiser esp if you remove the tags lol

Mate, people who say '' its only a sunbird''... ask those fools whats in their garage. A toyota corolla or a postie bike would be the common response. Only 1 person has to be proud of your care. and thats you.

Enjoy it

Seems to be quite a common misunderstanding (even when the car is not originally a Sunbird). I know a guy with a UC who has a typed up explanation to put in the window at shows so that everyone will know that his car is a Torana!

Just cover the tags up. :P

I've had the same issues with my car being 'only' a 253.
It's a v8 Torana, F U.

If you are restoring a Torry then a Sunbird is a great starting place to find a good clean straight chassis. A lot of Sunbirds were owned by careful driver who weren't interested in burnouts etc.

Bruce started with a Sunbird shell for my car because it was relatively rust free and not twisted or pranged ie it had been looked after.

Good shells are getting hard to find, looking at Sunbirds is a good start.

i found from personal experience sunbirds are the best toranas to hot rod as there bodys were never stressed having carried so little weight around, even better and cheaper than buying a original car then cutting it up,...mate get use to it as every one has a opinion..one of my L34s is heavy modified for my enjoyment then along comes a purist or jealous prick telling me i should not have that diff or gearbox in as not original and so on...can't please everyone but you can please yourself by enjoying what you got..by the way nice torana you have built...

Well said Unclefesta!!

As Uncle said, As long as YOU like your car then that's all that matters!

If others like it too then all the better but dont let them get to you! it's YOUR car!

Cheers!

i was thinking just the other day... i bought a bronze coloured LX sunbird from a wrecker for $450.. the thing didn't run and it had all the parts i wanted.. its now a cube somewhere... i parted it out and scraped it and really it would of been a good car with minimal work.. oh well... they are the cleaner example of a torana and you still see people with sunbirds at shows proud as punch with them and so they should be!

Hehehe, the amount of wankers (on youtube) who have tagged my car as a Sunbird just because the ashtray says Sunbird is amazing. As I pointed out them and by their own reckoning, if I put an SLR astray in the UC then suddenly it would be an SLR Torana !?!?!?! Funny thing is though, my UC was never a Sunbird at all and trying to convince "experts" otherwise is a pointless exercise in futility.

Nice car by the way Rookie !! Sure as hell looks like a Torana to me. :spoton:

"oh oh it's just a sunbird"

Ah yes, the so called experts and we all know what an expert is don't we :<_<:

"Ex" is an unknown quantity and "Spert" is a drip under pressure :spoton:

They usually make the "informed" comment in front of their mates

Some classic remarks when I had the LC GTR

"That's not an LC GTR because the LC GTR didn't have the badge on the side" :wtf:
"They're not GTR rims 'cause all GTRs had nibless rims" :dohdoh:

"That's a fancy steering wheel there, what sort of car did it come out of" :fool:

I don't bother to answer them I just turn away and shake my head

Saves a lot of auguments.

Regards ............... Barry

PS Great lookin' Torana rookie :spoton:

Herne is right, if it was an SLR5000 then these people would complain you modified an original car. It's a tidy looking car, don't let it get to you.

Remember in my younger days a mate had a 308 4 speed Torana. Was fun driving around cause he put 1900 badges on it. Had pretty skinny steel rims, and the 1/4 inch exhaust that the 4 cyls had. Dump pipe at the diff.
Changed badges to Sunbird later on.
Was always good fun on Gt Western Highway race track
Had a Harry Potter Anglia with a Lotus twin cam as well but thats another story.
