Hey All

Just a quick question. We had some lowered King Springs in the front end of the Torana but since putting the 350 chev and turbo 350 into it (which combined add about 100kg over the 253), its just way too low and annoying with a full load. Like 50mm from the ground low. Were not tiny fella's either.

King Springs suggested just using some off the shelf SLR5000 standard height springs with 18mm wire as these will not be very bouncy and under full load will still be easy to obtain full steering lock and keep ground clearance at 100mm + . The thick wire will keep it a lot more stiff. We changed the springs yesterday (to some we had sitting around) and it sits real nice without any passengers, add just me and a mate in the front and you cant even steer properly, thats how much they sit down, the wires are too thin.

Now that Im ageing ive moved away from the lowered car scene, well too low anyways, especially where its to the point that it totally impairs practicality.

Does this sound like a good thing to do, use standard height slr5000 springs? Sounds good to me, I dont even care if the front is higher than the back because its usually me and another in the front so it will balance out. The back currently sits pretty high so it should sort that out too.

Cheers

Brett

Hi Rory

I went to King Springs near my work yesterday and ended up buying some standard height A9X/SLR5000 springs that have 18mm wires, rated at 820lbs.

The springs that were in it were 17mm wire V8 super low springs rated at 660lbs ea.

The extra total weight of the motor/charger/trans is nearly spot on 85kg. Do you think these springs will be suitable? I can swap them over if I want. I know they will bring it down a little lower than standard because of the weight, but surely they should be a lot better than the super lows that were in it??? Should this cure the problem and allow a full load??

Thanks for your help

Brett

I think LXCHEV runs the A9X springs in his beast as well... Not sure if he uses the Lowered option ones though, or just the standard height... Hopefully he sees the thread and lets us know!

Hi Rory
With the Bedford springs are they standard springs or heavy duty, what model Bedford and how much does it stiffen the front end up? Im looking for a rock hard ride. I have aftermarket heavy duty springs at the moment but there still too soft.
Any details on these would be much appreciated

Hey all

We installed the standard height A9X springs from King Springs last night.

Well lets just say it definitely sorted the problem. Any higher at the front and the car will take off. We need to wind the back up a bit now (adjustable suspension under the tubs). Once they settle a bit it will be great and has solved all problems.

SLR6000...with the thickness of these springs, they are as stiff as a board.

Thanks again

Brett

Drew,
There is only one listing in Lovells and Kings for Bedford..they are 1100lbs..rock hard and race car perfect...Thats what Harry used on the L34 and A9X..they bolt straight in. Lovells P/N is BFS-01

Thanks Rory
If Harry used them they must be ok, its a lot cheaper option than getting custom springs made.
Cheers Drew

Hey Brett,

Just saw this thread tonight - Matt was spot on - I'm running the standard height A9X springs in mine too - but with HQ stub axles. Here's a couple of pics to give an idea on the height:
