I'm a little intrigued about the "bolt on tramp bars".

Its not really difficult as anything that can be welded usually can be bolted instead if you work it out as my local head specialist mentioned it last time I spoke with him as we were throwing around ways of getting a 12. He runs a very quick Camaro and just finished helping his daughter build her V8 Torana.

Well I havn't been here as much as I would have liked so thought I would drop an update on my mildly tuned 202.
So much has happened since I was here last and now instead of having 1 granddaughter I have 4 now :D
I had a few issues last time I took my little LC to the drags and I am still running without my ideal ratio diff so havn't yet tried to score that 12 second quarter yet.

I have felt it was running on 5 cylinders for a while and did some checks but couldn't really work out why and after last meeting I could only manage with my full street exhaust a 13.7 at 100mph and it felt a bit flat up in the top revs.

I pulled the engine down to check the internals and the rings are just starting to bed in properly which is good and the bearings were in good nick so the oil is doing its job, then i checked out the head and found number 2 inlet spring was broken on the first coil, thank goodness I run double valve springs as i reckon it saved my engine.

I am putting it together this weekend and will test run it but before next meeting. I have had a minor problem with my 4-spool diff as it takes a larger bearing diameter then the LSD but should have it in soon. I banged on some new Falken 225x50x15 tires on the VL Calais rims and they sit nice. I am in the process of matching up the front to the same pattern with HQ Discs up front and this may take a bit of fiddling to get sorted but nothing that can't be overcome.

I may never get a 12 out of it as I have been adding weight to the overall car with heavier diff and front brakes but I will give it a darn good try :P

It is starting to get closer to the original aim, a circuit/drag/street everyday driver on a budget.
We have just bought another house so looks like I'm broke for another 15 years ;) so

Have always been interested to read your posts Graham so its good to have you back. I love the way you think a little outside the square Posted Image

Before you spend any more money of the car, go out and buy a few packets of condoms for your kids. From one to four grandkids in that short amount of time needs some intervention!!

Looking forward to your next race report.

someone correct me if im wrong, but dont u mean 4 pinion lsd.
by some mickey thompson streets, just dont do a burnout, and they'll last 3 years worth of meetings.
how often does it get street driven? if u wanted to go as fast as possible stick a set of 4.4's or 4.8's in the arse. ive seen people pick up and dad pick up .3 of a second swapping from 3.9's to 4.7's

theres definitely a 12 in it with that driveline. You just gotta find itPosted Image
good luck

Quite a good time out of an N/A 202, well done mate.
greens nice has a point, that elusive 12 might just be in your rear end gears...

Thanks, its gone past what I aimed for when I built it as I was only ever after a 13.5 on stock parts but a 13.1 just blew me away.
The gearing I settled on which I should have in there one night this week is a 3.9 4-pinion LSD (thx for pointing this out green) as I use it a fair bit on the street. To be honest I really think the 13.1 was probably the best the car will do as I have made some changes since that may have slowed it down.

This next meeting I am going to give it my best shot and the track will be at its best for grip as this is the South Island Champs, a divisional round of the NZDRA and first round of the club champs and they start the track prep earlier. We are limited with the amount of VHT that can be used which is for about the first couple of hundred feet only as it is a shared track and the circuit racers can't have it on the rest of the main straight. Even with this limiting factor last year we had several top cars running within a 1/10th of a second from what they were doing in the North Isalnd with purpose built tracks.

I have the Kumho V70A tyres and took them to 100mph the other day on the track (We have been doing a new setup with the track) and they get warm fast but pick up a lot of stones as they are very soft and grippy, I have been conditioning them on the street but don't want to wear them out so will only use them for drags from now.
