Summernats burnout qualifying today, 60 secs to strut your stuff and hopefully qualify for Sundays final.

Made it through OK but had some serious issues dealing with the newfound power. Even the lightest touch on the pedal would illuminate both shift lights and hit the limiter !

Carbs were also very rich to try and keep the thing running cool in the 37 degree heat, helped but still got a little over 200 Degrees. This is what makes the weird blubbering type noise.

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ujCpozHBWk0

Won't know until Sunday morning who of the 180+ tryouts makes it to the final 50 coming back on Sunday afternoon.

Hope to spend tomorrow in the shade with the car at Tuff Street.

A big thanks to RedSlur and his mate Splitty for coming up with some petrol for me to restart my car after parking it for a short period (mechanical fuel pump developed a vapour lock and wouldn't restart).

Much appreciated !

That's awesome mate!!

If you're going to pursue but outs with the blown setup, I would HIGHLY recommend speaking with mark at eze10s performance as he really has a handle in how to get blown methanol cars running sweet! (Specially with injector hats!!)

Feel free to give us a call anytime mate :)

Thanks ! What choice are you talking about ? Tyres ? If so I just buy a pair of the cheapest 205/65R15's and run with them. The set I used on Friday were a few years old and had done a few months work on a car I took to the scrap yard.

Just found out I am through to the finals today and will roll out a fresh set of tyres. Should get about 75 secs out of them !

Thanks guys.

Just got home, its stinking hot and dry out there !

All went well, drove off with panel work and paint intact and 2x blown tyres !

I'm also waiting for some footage, should be up in about 24 hrs or so I reckon.

A mate mounted a GoPro thing on the front guard facing rearward. He just text me saying it came out well and will get me a copy in a day or two.

Struggler was there much wind today ? From some footage off other it seems smoke was hanging around making hard going

Not much of a breeze at all so stinking hot and smoke drifted slowly to the grandstand side of the track.

I can understand that, it was too hot for me too. Thanks for the compliment !

Not sure yet, really need some more Drag Radials so may buy some slicks and have a real go. Thinking of heading up to Powercruise too.

I saw the official placings for the burnouts a week or so ago, came in 13th which I was more than happy with !

I haven't done much to the car recently, too busy with other work and busting myself up !

I did have an issue with the steering. The burnout eliminations were held straight after the World Record Burnout attempt and as such there were about 138 holes dug in the track (static burnouts only). As I flew into the pad area one of the front wheels fell into one of these holes and ripped the steering wheel out of my hands and smashed it into full lock. Instantly I noticed the steering wheel was about 90° out and I had developed some serious play. That night I checked all the cotter pins and tightened one up which was a little loose. I perservered for the weekend and vowed to check it out later. This week I found the time to pull the steering shaft and rack out to get a look at them. Unfortunately the intermediate shaft has twisted and bent and two of the cotter pins were twisted around the shaft slightly. This would explain the steering wheel angle ! The rack checks out OK which is a good thing but I need 2x new universal joints and an intermediate shaft.

Always willing to try something new I have ordered a pair of the Borgesen GMH replacement universals and will let you know how they go.

Here is another veiw of the Sunday burnout for those that just can't get enough !

Post pics of the ones you'll be using, would appreciate the feedback on them.

I used those rare spare replacements for the original lh knuckles & pins...must say less than impressed when compared to original holden items.

So..this mean you're sticking to addictive blown set ups or going back to n/a?

Definately will give a detailed run-down on the uni's/knuckles.

As for the blown/NA deal...... the engine builder in me loves the challenge of getting more from the NA combos where the crazed lunatic in me loves the blown alcohol torque !

The battle is still going on........I'll let you know who wins !

So are you going to get a custom shaft made, or another stockie?

OK, an intermediate shaft is on its way thanks to the generosity of a fellow forum member.

The steering universals have arrived and look really nice.

Attached File  P1020783.JPG   27.67K   2 downloads

As you can see they are about the same external diameter as a stock unit.

Attached File  P1020784.JPG   17.4K   2 downloads

The pins are a little more robust than the stockers too. Thread is still 1/4" UNF but the tapered part is thicker and the thread is actually a stud that screws into the body of the pin. This makes it considerably stronger than a stock unit.

Attached File  P1020786.JPG   26.44K   3 downloads

Attached File  P1020787.JPG   8.59K   3 downloads

The price was also right, very fair, even including post from the US of A.

Attached File  Steerinv.jpeg   92.62K   4 downloads

Once I get my hands on the intermediate shaft I'll put it all together and let you know how it feels !
