Got1UR1, you must be talking about a LC or LJ SL!!!

After all none of these VEEATE powered bits of crap being discussed could ever match the sheer relentless grunt of a stock holden six!!

Cheers.

Ahh, Darky but what excitement we have, going real fast not knowing what will fail first !!! Alas you may never experience the fear, sorry I meant thrill of driving a car with such unrefined raw power and questionable brakes, diff and handling. Brings out the driver in you !!!

Sound like a monaro!

G,day Bomber, You must have your 6,s running on Methanol. Too much exposure to the fumes will cloud your judgement and lead to rash claims, or was that a rash of way out there claims? Have to admit though that I had some mates in the day of the LC/LJ XU-1,s that loved them, and they were pretty awesome little cars. Keep flying the flag mate.

I think it's always hard to say what might have been, you just never know. It's like all the Ford fans say about Dick Johnson hitting the rock in 1980, if he didn't hit it, he would have won...that was lap 17, lets face it, he may have crashed or broken the car anyway, you just never know. The XU1 V8 would have been a good thing for the Holden fans, but the Ford guys always say the XA HO would have been unstopable too, who knows, we certainly never will, at least the XA's still exist.

The XA still exist as we all know
If the GMH Lone o Ranger V8 LJ GTR Prototype had not got stolen in 1985, we would have the XA GT Phase 4 sparring partner around

If memory serves me correctly Darky, most six cylinder engine failures were electrical in nature. Usually caused by #1 flying out of bed and knocking the alternator off its perch :stirpot:

The other common issue is #6 flying out and knocking the starter off, making the engine unstartable.

I like to refer to it as adaptive crankcase ventilation.....

Cheers.

That is very clever as it would definitely not be positive cranckcase ventilation....what is the most HP you have gotten from a red 6 with any degree of reliability?

Hey Bomber, I had a 186 with a yella terra head, nice crow stick, 350 holley etc in a HQ puss bucket with 3.55 diff. I fitted an after market tacho that seemed accurate and honest to god, in a brain dead moment it saw 8-9 thousand in first. Man that was a strong bottom end. I bought an LX hatch SL with a stock 202 that drank like a sailor. so I dropped in the 186 and got almost twice the mileage from a tank.

202 are just boat anchors IMO.

Never had one on a dyno. Had to lift off the pedal in the old LH when the speedo needle hit the stop mark for 0 (around the dial) cause the frOcking thing was all over the road and still wanted to go faster though....That may have had a psi or two of boost shoved into it though.

Cheers.

8 or 9 thousand would just about guarantee an elecrically induced engine failure........ :furious:

I put another 5yr of driving on that motor. I had to take a 800km trip at least every fortnight for more than 2 years with it. Probably put over 150 thousand km on it. Great memories.

Oh and Bomber, I saw the needle on the wrong side of the speedo stop once out on a lonely country back road when young and stupid. Windows down, engine blaring..........yep those bullet proof years were something.

Darky, at the risk of being facetious, why don,t you drop a 186 into the Hatch? Big horsepower, longevity, less weight = more fast, could solve all of your problems in one go? :dohdoh:

As above...been there moved on. Been here moving on..........

I have almost clocked up 15,000 km on the mass produced L98 VE I have and guess what.....................no engine issues and way more power.

If it wasn't a sin I would throw out the plastic and drop in a low milage LS something.........the wiring and programming etc I can deal with.

But alas it is worth more original so I will be throwing out the baby with the water when the time comes...........might buy an L34..their cheap. :P
