if something breaks. I seem to remember somone breaking a T10 in tassy, long way to get the car back to QLD. Not keen to have something break or my 20 year old tyres fail around somewhere like Wakefield and have to get back to Sydney

Car was towed down anyhow, but funnily enough 6 months later it was sold and taken back to Tassie

I am sorry to say i have to put in an apology for the debate tonight as i am going to footy.
Simple end to this debate is for red to pull his head in and admit that the a9x in standard form is only a taxi

Cant wait for reply but if its negative all i will say is you have been offered the opportunity michael to prove the a9xs superiority and your backing down ,either you dont like doing things for charity or you dont think the a9x can cut the mustard.End of story.

Wayne, I'm sorry mate, but I'll say it again take a read back, I honestly thought better of you than that, your responses have been nothing short of childish. The get a life comment really did nothing to help. Where exactly did I say the stock A9X was superior to the stock L34? My point has been during this discussion the whole time that some people think the L34 was a complete weapon and a much better car, the fact is straight off the showroom floor, it wasn't.

I'm very lonely ...

for me nothings been achieved in this great debate,..but comment of the night came from pallbag...i really fell of the chair from laughter...its a pretty passionate subject it seems but getting personal..I'm a genuine shit stirrer but like arguments base on facts not fiction,...for years we have been told don't believe everything you read in the newspapers and so on nothings changed from eras gone by ....just a simple comparison for you red and you most welcomed to inspect the figures yourself..
in the last 18 months I've been involved in two restoration rebuilds both cars happen to be red seriously guys no bullshit here...first one being a standard as possible rebuild to a L34 engine slightly oversize camshaft, serviced heads and modified rochester (done by purple lc).. l34 engine made 315hp on the most accurate Dyno...the A9X engine with the same mods and both used the tri wire extractors etc...A9X engine made 275 hp...authenticity in these rebuilds were the key the focus,...to keep them standard as possible.(both cars belong to good friends).....engine builder and dyno were done by HERCULES competition engines....this is the same guy responsible for the 69 camaro raced by Steve mason which won the 2007 biante title...and yes he is a personal friend...red anytime one want to inspect figures you are most welcome...by the way a further 7hp was made on the L34 engine when using the hm headers with the st extensions...red it was always chalk and cheese between these to 2 engines and you no it...one detune at the time the other carrying all the pollution gear at the time....your argument was nil difference in these 2 cars of the factory floor...i certainly don't think so....now enjoy this great debate..

Jesus... I really didnt think this would explode like it has!!!

I thought that unclefesta's challenge, would just turn into a "Handbags at Heathcote" type thread... Where we can all put fictitious bets on, have lots of fun and watch two great looking cars in action!

Anyone got any skidpan/motorkhana days coming up??

Go to whoa
Slalom's etc etc

Not too much pressure on the cars, but a good comparision... Best of 5 different event type things and see who the FUN winner is!

If Red Taxi doesnt wanna do it... Do we have anyone else in Sydney with a Red or Blue A9X (Then it can be Red Vs Red, or Red Vs Blue)

I reckon it would be a great spectacle! We all know its not going to end this debate, but it would make it a lot more light hearted!

Oh if only the clock could be turned back. The is no way in hell a bog stock L34 engine as it left the factory floor made that sort of horsepower back in 1974 through that tiny little exhaust and aircleaner. My factory stroker VT doesn't make that much power but i bet it would flog a stock L34......

RED, faster = top speed, maybe you should consider facts beyond quarter mile times. all bathurst races are longer than that. my brand new, outer the showroom L34 was guaranteed to do 143 MPH stock standard 11/03/75. no other standard 308 can pull 5500 rpm in top gear with a 2.78 diff ratio, simply because they cannot develop the hp to do so. after every quarter mile thereonafter the l34 is going to be further ahead, remember stock standard versus a9x. the a9x was faster on the track but it wasnt standard but was developed into a better more reliable race car. regards jeff

Im no expert but this 1974 copy of sports car world says top speed is 202km/h (125Mph) at 4800 rpm at peak power point also says the SL/R & L34 both had identical best standing quarter mile times of 16 secs but they managed a 15.8 in the SL/R with a ex factory tune also the SL/R would reach 160km/h in 24 secs the L34 took 25.2 then it quoted the General has told the Truth

No offence to anyone here, but if i was RED, i wouldn't be track racing my genuine A9X and risking damages.

People have different cars for different purposes. Some build to race, some build to show, some build to drive everyday.

Personally, i don't see the practicality in having just a 'show car' that doesn't get driven, but each to their own.

But given RED has a completely original A9X, we should be appreciative that there are still some original examples of rare cars out there, i know if i had one i wouldn't be risking anything. Why has this thread turned into a 'dare' for RED to prove his cars worth.

RED, you don't have to prove anything mate.

My 2c.

Mike.

So from what I can gather reading back over the thread is the A9X is a far superior car but REDA9X wont admit it?

Gee, where has all the sunshine gone.

REDTAXI (MOB), we are just having an esky race/bullshit session, if you bit/fight well you tend to get wound in (played).

Relax everyone, it's just a bit of fun.

L34's and A9X sedans are all a shopping trolley compromise anyway.

A Hatch is the only way to go.

Bloody bunch of sooks. :)
