any way fired it up in the back yard to go out for a spin and had a big back fired started it again and she didnt sound good so it sat there for a while

well i finally got round to pulling down the torana motor to see if the big bang was a nasty one wasnt as bad as i thought but its still trashed

Should have just kept the old 253 in there! Nah thats a bugger mate. I wondered what had happened. What are your plans for it now? You've got another 308 block or something lying around havent you?

Time to do it once and do it right mate!

Maybe get the guy who is doing the machine work for Leigh to do yours... his prices seem pretty good and his quality is fantastic as well (Did LXCHEVs and Q's Torana engines). Might be worth him putting the short motor together for you too, for that extra bit of insurance/peace of mind..

You'll wanna get that crank inspected thoroughly, machined and checked out before you proceed, and also double check all the rods are ok too... Then get your pistons then have them all balanced up...

Then see Clive for a nice cam! Get those heads you have tricked up and you'll be laughing! Then we might have a sweet little head to head race going on!

im confident with ian just depends if hes settled into his new workshop by then i might even pay him to do the short going file fit rings something ive never played with not really confident in doing it while spending a bit of coin cam will definately be from clive already got one sorted haha cant rember part number but ive spoken to him about one crank is in ace condition if i was a real cheap ass i could put the bearing back in motor was only onsold because he was chasin big hp so needed different pistons and rods so he thought he might aswel get a crank while hes at it as for the head in the next week or 2 there will be some stainless steel valves on there way for the heads ive got some more porting to do to them i just havent had the time(enthuisasm) to finish them yet

also im doing alot of work to the bay and other areas while its off the road so motor wont go in for a while yet hopefully not to long

Fair enough, Justin file-fitted my rings as the clearances weren't optimum out of the box, it was pretty fiddly if i recall, I think you need a special tool to do it...

Have the crank checked out anyway, you'll then be able to get the exact matched (NEW!) bearings to suit... All these little things will help your oil pressure, and hopefully the longevity of the engine!

It'll be good if you can get some full flat top pistons and get some good compression in it... That'll help you get that power you dream of!

Are you gonna go a big arse stall as well? haha

Uh oh....... You dunno how big the can of worms are you just opened! Have fun with the engine bay, it's a long tedious process I've just finished mine, looks brilliant but never again.

Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

What's the rough specs on the new engine?

Cheers

Good shit Ryan! What colour are you doing the engine bay?

Hey also come to think of it I don't think I've ever ridden in your Torana. Looking forward to coming for a spin once you get it back together again.
