Hey guys
Wasnt sure if i have posted this in the right section cause it isnt my project and thought was worth a look
I spotted this on another forum and emailed the guy asking if i could post up the pics on here. He said no worries and told me it was a genuine xu1. It looks to be putting out some massive power and is absolutely awesome.. I know this may ruffle some feathers but to be honest i would rather this to a genuine xu1. (dont ban me)

Anyways tell me wat everyone thinks

Awesome car, the car has not quite hit the road yet (no rego),the owner (Clay) was having a few issues with overheating, (i feel it may just be thermo fans not good enough) hope he will have fixed soon ,when it hits the streets tho, this thing will be a weapon for sure !

Ha -ha, have to agree about the bonnet hinges (sorry Clay) :tease:

Looks better on here than Calaisturbo.... for me anyhow, some many other like minded Torana/RB30 people on here too, the head is off getting a cam, valve springs, cometic head gasket, ARP head stud kit, port and polish and clean up.... looking forward to getting it all back and putting it back on now... Seeing if it solves the problems

So obviously you may suspect head or head gasket for the cooling issues Clay

did you find a problem or just a good excuse to do more mods ?

Oh yeh, welcome to the forum , bout time you joined up too  (he-he)

Flip, some serous work has gone into that. That would be fun to drive and welcome to the forum. I'm loving every second that I drive my stock RB25 in the UC. Love blowing away people from the lights.

I smoked a WRX STI the other day. He wasn't happy at all.

Oh it is definately fun to drive, feels very flighty still to me as I havent had much time in it as it is, with the old 186 it was an absolute slug fest, now much diferent, making the VX SS (my daily driver) feel even tamer than it is.

We suspected the Head Gasket and when I pulled the head there were problems with it but we all thought it should have been worse, with the head off and new gasket, we had to scim the head just to be sure of a good contact in the future.... if its going to the machine shop may as well stuff a cam and some valve springs in too, reco the head and get the cometic head gasget and ARP head stud kit too, god I hope this helps the situation with the cooling too, otherwise???? larger thermo???

I personally would think sticking a 5 litre in it would be easier, by fair actually however I would go the RB30et again, once its in and going strong to get more power out of it will be simple, plus back in the day, when they stuck heavy V8's into LC/LJ's they had a tendecy to not stop and turn that well, and upgrading to the RB30et doesn't add too much weight over the front end like the RB30et does, just something else to consider. Plus how many V8 LC have you seen before too.

However the advantage over the RB30et that the V8 does have is the fact there is plenty of room for the Radiator and thermo fans too, perhaps a injected 5lt with boost would be the way to go? but I am sticking with the RB myself.

Clay

I had it registered in Adelaide with the 186 in it, but moved to Townsville where I have done the conversion... or is that doing the conversion as it still has bugs..... so cant answer that one for you sorry.

Pretty sure even Brocky said it, when he had a V8 in one that he raced, he said great in a straight line but hard to pull it up and didnt turn, with the extra weight over the front wheels, not that that is a concern for me, I dont plan cornering fast......

According to most people they actually turn a bit better, because the weight is lower and further back, although there is more apparently its quiet nice.

Dont know, never compared them personally.

Lovin ya car mate.

Cheers.

I think the argument was based around a "properly setup V8 LJ torana"

so its open to interpretation.

Im not an RB fan, If I was going to go Jap, Id go the 2J route!

but thats just personal opinion.

I saw your Torry a while back (and I liked it too).... I dont think it will be ready in time, the head is off getting a cam, springs, big ol port and polish, cometic gasket and ARP head stud kit for it, it was over heating lots so with a bit of luck (but I doubt it) it should fit the problem.
