Engines sat on the production floor for a number of weeks before being married to the chassis, so the date code in a 6-76 vehicle would be 5th month May or 6th month June (xxE6 or xxF6).
The engine sequence number will have HTxxxxx
If in doubt start a thread and post pictures

The GMH year calender for compliance commences Sept each year. So a vehicle complianced Dec 77 would have H as the year code.
So Toranavista, am I correct in assuming that if the Compliance Plate is dated 11/74 BUT the VIN Number indicates "E" (Built in 1975) all is still well?
I'm looking to a Torana and have been working through the plate information I've found on the site and this is where I'm at.
Thanks Rob

Hi All,
Been Asked by a friend to have these numbers checked any info would be fantastic.
VIN: 8D69TDJ427124H
Engine: HT6605
Model: LH8VD69 or LK8VD69
Body: 427124M
Trim: 1879-19V
Paint: 567-15821
Eng: L31
Trans: M21
Axle: GU7
Chasis: ALH 003813 M
Also, which dealership did to go to after leaving the factory would be appreciated.
It looks like a K was stamped were the H is in the model number then a H over the top WTF!!!
It also has a HQ style console with no arm rest would this be correct.
Cheers
I thought the numbers and the leter of the Chasis number ( ALH 003813 M ) had to match the VIN number ( 8D69TDJ427124H )

Your chassis number should match the drivers side ADR tag number
The numbers on the VIN should match the body tag on the passingers side
Have a read through here -- http://www.gmh-toran... plate chassis
Explains the tags on LH / X

May have been stolen or had that part of the skirt replaced after repairs.
Might be darrenmark1's car?

Hi guys, this thread has helped me identify what the LX I am looking at really is/was.
The VIN # says it all I think. 8D69LF J509508x
The 'L' indicating a 202 motor so this car is not an SR/R 5000 as advertised.
Would some one care to confirm this for me.
By the way the body #'s match up but the engine, gearbox and diff #'s have been stamped. Bugger.

Check out that tag
The ad says its a 202 but someones budgied it up to say L31 M21
Thats the one you were checking here
http://www.gumtree.c...740253?mpch=ads
Still can't place it... but its niggling at me that I know something about this car I can't seem to remember
Seems to have gone up $10k since its ad on Musclecars too

Odd, something I didnt pick up on with my car, the production number on my vin on my ADR plate doesnt match up with the body no on the vehicle plate. :S CLX059563M on the ADR vs 599351M?? on the holden plate? praying i havnt got a rebirth or replate or something. Anyone got any ideas on why this wouldnt match up?

Ben,
your chassis number on the ADR plate will only match the chassis number stamped into the chassis.
The Body number will only match the numbers on the VIN tag and no where else.
cheers
Mick
