That plate is an SL/R, not a GTR.

Everything appears to line up, the "D" is the model year, which for Holden traditionally rolled-over on September 1st every year.

Apart from that, it says it's a 4.2L 4sp manual LH SL/R sedan with a 2.78:1 diff ratio.

No

D is correct for any Holden or Torana built between 1 September 1973 and 31 August 1974.

I suspect you are thinking of the chassis number prefix Neil.

Is there anyway to get an original engine number using a UC chassis number?

This may have been asked before but does anyone here have a cross reference between the Body Number, in my case ALH 012274M to the Vin number *VD69ZJ.........?

Some of us have been collecting numbers for a while but it's not an exact science, the old story goes that the GMH records for LH/LX were somehow lost or stolen (sounds like crap to me but...)?

Anyway, with your chassis number (and assuming it's an L34), I'd guess you should have a VIN somewhere around 8D69ZD J438xxxH

If it is an L34 someone may have a more accurate list?

Is there anyone I can pm to check the details of my tags? All three are there and the body number matches the tag.

Just want to find out what I can. Thanks

All three plates are there and look original to my untrained eye.

The vehicle number on the safety plate matches the chassis so that looks ok

The Vin 8C69LHJ XXXXXX which reads as a 78 LX 202 SL?

The body ID plate on the passenger side matches the last 6 digits of the VIN so I am thinking that looks ok except the body plate shows L32 which is 253?

I would appreciate any advice?

As you say, the VIN is for an LX SL 202 Sedan manufactured from September 1977 onward, not much else to tell without the actual numbers and details of each plate?

The body plate may have a typo from the factory, it's not unheard of?

Yes it is/was an L34. Stole a long time ago. A search of VicRoads by both Reg No and Body No indicates that it is still on their books as stolen. I would just like the 8D69ZDJ..... numbers for my records in case it was to ever resurface.

If you have the original engine number that the car was born with, you may have some luck by contacting Holden Historical Services:

http://www.holdenhis...ervices.com.au/

Bear in mind you may need to fork over $90 for the info?

Contacted Holden, they tell me 1978-180's records on microfiche and there was no way anyone was going to search them.  Even if you get somebody did a search you would have to give a engine number for verification for "yes or no" answer.

I assume you don't have the original engine number then?

Holden Historical Services (linked above) is not GMH, but he apparently has copies of service records from Holden either in printed hard copy and/or microfiche, but searching by chassis number alone is impossible, or so it says on his website, as the records use body numbers and engine numbers.

It was just a thought anyway?

Hey Guys, while I was reading through the forum tonight I came across a post that show a 12/75 SS Coupe   ALX000506M. My car was built 01/76 and my number is ALX00034#M . Thought with a built date 12/75 the number would be lower than mine ?? Thanks for any feedback

It's actually the compliance date rather than the build date, if I remember correctly a car couldn't be compliant until complete, so I guess the Compliance Plate would've been one of the last things to go on, as opposed to the Body Plate which was one of the first to be fitted (hence why it's painted).

Is yours the integrated air con with the evaporator in the engine bay, or the "knee freezer" under-dash type? The latter were all dealer-fitment as far as I know, so couldn't have delayed production.

We're only talking about 160-odd vehicles and perhaps a matter of days either side of the Christmas / New Years break, and remember that sedans were included in that chassis number count as well as all the different luxury levels.

Also, a Hatch was a completely new thing back then, with yours being one of the first ever made there could easily have been some issues with the way it went together, or parts supply, or something?

I wouldn't stress about it too much anyway.

Thanks Andrew, makes sense. Wasn't worried as so as just wondered. Purchased car in 99/2000 when tags and original paint were still in tact. Have had my tags checked from Ian rare spares Adelaide and no issue. Numbers are a knew thing to me and I enjoy reading and studying my knew interest. I would have purchased anything if the paint work looked right. Not anymore. I would now look for replaced rivets / build date / numbers and would also upload some pics for our rivet counters. Going to look at the progress of the Torrie today. Over the years I had put some marks and a small dent in her so it was sent to paint shop for some correction. Going to take some pics of the build plates. Also I have never taken notice of the kays on the clock as it didn't mean anything to me. Well it hasn't been driven for fifteen years and I am very interested in this :). Anything you can think of Andrew to take a pic of for my records ?. This car must be so close to finished I can taste IT.

I cant remember what type of A/C but have some parts as per pics. Also you mentioned about the plate being painted. Are you saying with the three tags that one is painted ?. As one on mine is painted and thought it was painted by someone who owned the car before me. Did they allow these cars to leave the factory with one painted tag ?
