If you can get a close up clear photo of the number LHS Front where the head meets the block 

And one of the date code casting on the block front above the water pump housing

 

Then like Brett says above you will have it all if it matches

The letter T in the engine number and the VIN number = 5 litre V8.

1K6 = 1st day of October 1976.

Your car is complianced 10/76 so it must have been built late in October to have that particular engine, if it is original to the car..

Holy crap, the 1st of October '76 must've been a busy day in the foundry, I've got another 1K6 block with a number over 2000 engines after that one (but I can't guarantee that one was genuine, it seems a little late, unless it got held-up on the line somewhere).

As I understand it the ADR/compliance plate is the only way to verify the body stamp on the RHF? Our car is missing the compliance plate, but has the build and Vin plates which match. Just wondering if there is any other way to cross reference this production number in the body to the Vin? I know that the compliance plate isn't strictly needed (I'm a roadworthy vehicle inspector myself). Just curious, obviously all the later model cars where much better identified.

Edit: I don't doubt the cars authenticity, it's not a srl and have proof of previous registration etc. Original engine, Trans and paint are long gone.

I could maybe give you an idea based on whether the chassis number and PSN line up if you want to post them up here?

 

But if you want to be certain you could order a report from Holden Historical Services, if your vehicle is found in the service records that would confirm what you want to know?

Had not seen the Holden historical services before. I might send them a message. Always interesting to find out a bit of history of a car this old.
