More pictures-

parts pile, its funny how much space it all takes up when you pull it all off!

The rear of the inlets and the throat have had more work than anywhere else on this head, by no means massive, but should be enough considering that its similar to the purple car, but with higher compression and a bigger lump stick.

and just some more shots when I was pulling it down

I know the feeling of it taking up space! Mine is the opposite now! Its great to finally put it all back together and make some space!!!

Haha, yeah id say it is!

New ventilated and slotted rotors turned up, need to get them turned down now.

Split and disassembled the calipers, pistons are all good, have kits waiting so just waiting on them to get hot tubbed. Going to paint them black I decided, nothing flashy lol.

Front end is in hifill, waiting on a mate to paint it all, then its ful steam ahead!

Front end is all shiny and smooth!

Went for black again, I dont think I could hack having it orange, would get dirty too quickly. So gloss black it is!

Hopefully have the front end back together saturday morning, just need to pull the stubs off the one in the backyard to replace my UC front stubs.

Bought a bearing kit for my box today, so giving that a go over the weekend as well, fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Things still needed to do-

-Clean and paint block/head
-Port match manifolds
-Smooth and paint manifolds (going black again)
-Clean and paint some parts of my webers
-polish/paint a whole heap of ancillary pieces
-Rebuild gearbox
-rebuild front end
-mock up brakes to sort out caliper-rotor clearances to turn them down
-Get brake lines made
-finish new extractors+HPC
-build exhaust

and probably a heap more!

I plan to get it running and driving again this weekend using some of the old parts (old brakes, old extractors etc) to get it to the paint shop, so that will give me the time to get the rotors and brake lines sorted, as well as finish the new pipes, so when it comes back from the panel shop, I'll be able to bolt it all up.

Still havent decided on brake pads.

I was going to buy some DS25000 ferodo pads, but at $260 for the set, im a little hesitant, so looking at some cheaper options at the moment.

Only drama Ive got at the moment is my tappet cover doesnt fit with head studs.... seems a pretty stupid move to make a "race" rocker cover that doesnt fit with something performance related like head studs. I contacted bocam and for $66 I can get a new set of bolts and a spacer plate that will make it fit, not a heap of cash, but it still gives me the shits. It shouldnt need a spacer plate... And with a spacer plate, i need to then run two gaskets and all the headaches that will bring, plus look like shit.

So Im tossing up modifying the cover with the die grinder and the tig, but we will see how I go.

Yeah definitely should stop a shitload better.

The cast iron calipers are a little heavier than I'd like, but it should be worth the trade off!

I just cant wait to get it driving again, its been like 4 months off the road now. After the drag day this weekend though its basically full steam ahead.

:)

Well torana is officially registered again, was cutting that a bit fine....

another week or two and it would have passed 90 days and needed a blue slip, Id lose my plates etc etc.

Seems like I pay all this rego each year and the car is only on the road for half that frOcking time, pretty pathetic....

$530 for my bloody CTP, plus $400 odd for rego and $400 odd to comp insure it for the year.

Adds up when Ive got 4 registered cars in our house. Karlies Greenslip on the ute is even worse because Its classed as a "commercial vehicle" what a crock.

Very impressive Chris, what make simmons are those wheels exactly? your car is neat, straight and exactly what a 4 door ought to be. And the new motor sounds like a bit of fun, even if it isn't an 8 Posted Image
Just one more question, what calipers are they? volvo 4 pots or something else?

just read this entire epic thread, awsome car

Thanks mate.
Years ago I had a complete write up on the car from dingy olive green crapbox from the wreckers to what it was after the first build, but after a dummy spit I had it deleted a while back, so the thread could be another 20 pages if it was all here! haha.

Calipers are Hilux 4 piston, rotors are BMW slotted and vented.

Well the box is almost back together, all fresh bearings and tolerances adjusted, just waiting on one more bearing today and will finish putting it back together tonight.

Saturday this week is for getting the box mated up to the engine and clutch etc sorted, then sunday is mounting it all on the front end, hubs etc back together and rolling it under the car.

If all goes to plan (which it rarely does) should be close to firing it up on sunday arvo
