Brad, leave the tag alone. So the corner is damaged where the lion is, just straighten it out the best you can, clean them up and put them back on.

Better to have the original 35 year old tag than a questionable replacement.

Guys, don't worry too much. Firstly I did not remove the tags.

What I want to do/try is to get a tag in good condition, press the lion into a medium of some kind to make an imprint and let it harden, then try very carefully to get the cat on mine lined up and pushed into the imprint.

I have seen repairs like this done with frozen water pushing the imprint out to original. Not tags though.

If it even looks half like I will degrade it even more I will go no further and leave it as it is.

thats what I mean Adam....they are assuming that you are legit? and going to pay >$12.5 k for them????......what could anyone do with them that would justify that?

Obviously trying to turn a V8 LH into an L34....maybe pick up 60k more than what the stocko LH was worth?.....but a hell of a risk........

I copied some pics of some tags that were for sale last weekend off a supposed LJ V8 together with a cutout body no. I have pics of all the numbers underneath. In the small plate number it looks like its an I after the J, definitely doesnt look like a 1.
