In NSW this is the number on your rego paper; for some reason they don't use the VIN.

s

All  States use the chassis number, none used the VIN. The VIN is an internal GMH only number - the PSN (end of the VIN) is the most important number to GMH, chassis number is of no relevance to them but it is the legal identity of the car.

You may want to email VCS the person's details.

Hopefully they'll have a nice display cabinet for them.

Can I get some information on these tags. Do they go together with the body?

Not much use for anything other than display, it is just a 6cyl manual HK Monaro, white with blue trim. WIll most likely (like 98% or more) be 161 and 3spd crash or 186 and 3spd crash. At the outside it could have been one of these but unlikely:

161 M15 3spd synchro

161 M20 4spd.

186 M15 3spd synchro.

186 M20 4spd.

186 M21 4spd.

186S 3spd crash.

186S M15 3spd synchro.

186S M20 4spd.

186S M21 4spd.

307 M21 4spd.

If it had one of those rarer combinations it could not be proved without books or the original body.

Is it an LJ GTR VIN plate too? From Acacia Ridge?

My first thought was it may be a Pagewood LC with PSN starting with H7 but it can't be, has to be H2 with a D as the luxury level; and the L as an engine code.

You is right Byron. 8D11LCH2XXXXX. When I made my previous post there was no zoom coming up on the ebay ad pics so I missed the fact it was an LJ VIN tag. I thought it was H1 not H2.

Obviously the dickwad selling this 'complete set of rare LC GTR tags' thinks the letters LC in the VIN number means LC Torana.

Hi

It's a mystery to me why these people think that it's okay to sell tags "for display only". The legislation seems pretty clear to me - a person shouldn't even be in possession of these tags (without reasonable excuse).

BTW the ADR tag (and probably the Body Tag) are from a Melbourne built LC GTR.

Cheers

good one Bazza......would seem a lot easier to bust the guys selling the tags......rather than waiting for a car to appear as a rebirth......the get sold a few times...THEN try and unwind the whole sorry mess.

At the tag selling time....there aren't too many victims either.

I just sent the seller a copy of the above pic. I also went through the procedure for reporting sellers on ebay for the first time. It was all "pick an option from the dropbox" and one of the options was "VIN plates and VIN plate rivets". So if you can report a member for selling them, why do they allow them to be listed in the first place?

Anyway, where the hell are all these plates coming from? It couldn't be easy to find even a wrecked GTR or HK Monaro these days.

Not easy but also not impossible; they're out there and from the example above, this guy has tags from 2 different cars trying to pass it off as the same vehicle.

Best to also contact the police, crime stoppers, etc. before the ad gets taken down.

So what exactly is a "reasonable excuse" for holding tags in 154J (1) of that law ? , and the onus is on holder to prove themselves

innocent of an offence otherwise proved guilty of from the outset? ,That needs changing big time,so what if someone has tags,as long as they don't end up sold and on another car that they were not intended to be on,then that would be a crime...so,all the tag holders out there are frokin criminals?

What if people hang onto tags to avoid them ending up on other cars?,what if someone just dumped the car with the tags on (which was/is unlawful),  and someone stripped them off the wreck to hock for profit on another car? , what if some people just collect them for a hobby without intent to sell?, what if ...

Of course it seems fairly bloody obvious that there is dodgy stuff going on but ffs,,a froking crime to hold onto something that will

never be used again....ffs , where does this shit stop?

Sounds fair enough, but from the outset "someone" is assumed guilty in holding tags and has to prove themselves innocent which seems contrary to

"innocent until proven guilty" as the law says.

It may well be said that the "law is the law",and that may well be all well and good in certain circumstances where the obvious is the obvious with sufficient evidence.

Not condoning the sale of such things, but the use of them to rebirth a dodgy would in most peoples eyes constitute a crime...as is already obvious in some cases.

Perhaps it should be written that ..."a person found with ID tags with intent to sell for the use of re-birthing a vehicle from which the ID tags did not originate will be guilty of a crime providing evidence can be produced in a Court of Law to substantiate the accusation".

:dontknow:

What's the current law with number plates? Aren't you supposed to hand them in?

I know there are people out there with their old number plates; perhaps they are criminals; it's not like the cops are chasing them or they'd ever be charged but funny how you don't see number plates being sold on ebay.

"someone" is assumed guilty in holding tags and has to prove themselves innocent which seems contrary to "innocent until proven guilty"

It's a possession charge; if you get caught with marijuana, you can't pull a Bill Clinton and say you didn't inhale.
