Hard to make out the last digits of the PSN but I believe it could be 82911CH178580 which is a GTR completed on the 25/11/1970. The body number 13211B aligns with this production time frame however the 8/70 compliance plate has no association with the other tags. If someone bought a 2dr rolling shell and these tags believing they are a matching numbers car they are in for a rude awakening.

In 1984 we couldn't have cared less about the tags on a vehicle. I remember all I ever looked for was L31 M21.

None of the GMP&A race shells had a Compliance plate fitted. I really don't know if any of them had one lying around in the glovebox, but I doubt it. They were never built to be licenced for the road.

Going on the story in the ad,  this shell that he speaks of would have to be the unused shell sold by HDT in August 1979 to Garry Rogers to replace the ex Jane car. This was the car with "frOck off Harry" written under the bonnet. (Firth was a scrutineer by then). It was later sold to Dave Langman.  The Car that John Harvey was driving in 1977 was still being driven by him in '79, even after it was crashed by Charlie O'Brien at Bathurst in 1978.

What do you reckon M.F.? Does this plate belong on your car?

As far as I can see nothing on that tag says it belonged to an SS let alone an A9X or was destined to be put on a GMP&A car. When you look at enough tags you can easily see that different things were stamped at different time on the ADR tag, most likely to save time at various stages in the VAP. It’s pretty clear this one was probably snaffled late in the assembly process. The last thing to be stamped is the seating capacity, 5 x LSD’s and the M of the chassis number. You see the same thing with commercials assembled at Dandenong at the same time. The seating capacity, GVW and stuff after AHZ0 are blank until the last minute.

What a horrible (or interesting) trim line: 1900-65A. Who in their right mind would order that? I think it also has a performance rear axle too which means it is almost certainly a retail order.
