im pretty new to the site and was just wondering what an average price would be to fully restore the exterior and interior of my LC GTR (minus the engine, running gear etc) as im only 17 and on a pretty average wage. ive got roughly 10k saved up and was wondering how far that would get me.
any help would be greatly appreciated,
cheers

Id say if your car is in need of major panel work as well as paint you may pay more than 10k, on the other hand if your car isn't too bad you should be able to find a good honest painter and beater that will do the job for less than 10k, the engine, gear box would cost at least 3-4, then throw in suspension, brakes and so on get my drift!, this is even before you start the inside.......

But hey, it's only money

Interior,im not too sure about the cost.
BUT,one thing is what you want the end result to be.By that I mean,if you paint the outside, you then will want to do the engine bay.Do that and you want to paint the engine. Then youll want the underside to match the smick body and paint.
Then youll want to redo the wiring etc etc etc etc and so on.How many simple paint jobs have snowballed to a full rotissery restoration!!!
Before you start make sure you know how you want the outcome to be.To me $10,000 should suffice but you can spend that on paint alone.
If your like my mate and had friends like me,i did him a favour really,it can get expensive.
My last advice is be patient and talk to the ones who have been there before because so many young guys have full stripped their car only to have it remain that way and sold as an un finished project.
Can you put up some pics as i love the LC GTR!!!!!

Here is what you can expect to pay....
Door trim, kick & parcel, head lining, seat belts, carpet: $1500
Seats retrimmed material & labour: $1800
Rotisserie restoration/ paint & panel: $12,000
I started out with a pretty good car...very little rust or damage
If you include things like rebuilding engine, gearbox, diff, crossmember etc
that has cost about $10,000.
Cheers

Firstly - pics please!! We lurve LC GTRs round here.
Secondly, give a brief description of thecurrent piant, body and interior.
As it is original, you may want to keep much of the original interior, even if a little tatty, as it is just that - original.

Good point!!!! its good to keep the interior original, just dont retrim for the sake of it.Ive never sat in a freshly retrimmed car but my interior is 40yrs old and has that antique smell to it.For me that just adds more character to the car.Tyler, welcome!!

Give us some description of where the rust is that you know of.
In my opinion 10k can go along way but alot depends on condition of body as it is

Hi mate,to give you another quick idea,i charged my mate $1800 to file finish his Fastback Mustang,it was straight with a few ripples and dings here and there and no rust.He got charged $3-3500 to paint it.
Interior,im not too sure about the cost.
BUT,one thing is what you want the end result to be.By that I mean,if you paint the outside, you then will want to do the engine bay.Do that and you want to paint the engine. Then youll want the underside to match the smick body and paint.

See its all about WHO you know and how much they like you and if your willing to barter. ** Before any comments start I am NOT referring to X rated favours **
I got the paint done by a guy who owed my Dad a favour, went with Acrylic over 2pak due to money, stripped the car ourselves, etc, We paid $5grand, she's not going to win a show but she'd not crap either.
Dad's hotrod buddies were lifesavers:
* full rewire including cost of materials, loads of extra's etc : $250
* Full interior fit out (handed over all the new stuff) and he started with a completely stripped interior : $200 **this guy did a top job, was an ex BMW upholsterer

New door skins (to original specs) : $500 (more now as did mine 5 yrs ago)
Roof liner (orig specs) : $250
Re co'ed dash : $200
New carpets : $200??? I think
Seats : bought for $600 a set newly retrimmed
Full set of door and window rubbers : think $600 ish?
Be prepared to scour swap meets and the trading post (Ebay is a rip off most of the time - sorry to the ebayers here). Took us 8+ sets of LC tail lights to get a good set. Scored interior lights, rear parcel shelf and loads of little finishing bits cheap at swaps but takes time. When budget is tight, time to resto grows LOL.
Getting new front and rear windscreens took a while for me, mine where scratched to buggery. In the end they werent real cheap but yeah this is 5 years ago, so numbers are a bit foggy.
It can be done, just start making lots of friends

Good luck,
Kelly

This is true its all about who you know but sometimes it doesnt work out.. Like for example with my panel job they said 3 months it actually took a year.. Alright next was my dads mate is spray painter he said 3-5months. It turned out to be 14months.. So always say you need it for a photoshoot and you have a deadline etc..so you need it done as soon as possibleSee its all about WHO you know and how much they like you and if your willing to barter. ** Before any comments start I am NOT referring to X rated favours **

Seats Re trimmed $1700.00
Door Cards $700.00
Carpet $250.00(ment to be like original.
Headlining $200 about (original material)
Etc.
