The car has been sitting in a shed for 12mths. It's dusty & dirty.

I'll post pics when it's clean....... ish.

Things are happening though. I can only do what i can on the good days. My boys have been a big help. :)

I'm looking forward to giving it a wash & fitting the new bumpers!

First things first though!

Rear tyres are just rubbing on the shocks, but i have a cunning plan! :)

I have to wait & see what my diff guy thinks, but we are all over it like a fat kid on a smartie.

Ok..... here we go!
Fitting a T-5 into LH/X with no tunnel mods.

Firstly, there was no way the box was going to go in without removing the bellhousing. This made the job easy.

My T-5 has been fully recoed. I also had the Ford rear extension housing fitted in an attempt to align the shiter up with the factory hole & to give that little bit of extra clearance.

This made it a whole lot easier too......

Once the bellhousing & clutch was in place, the box just slotted home :) Thanks to my m8s & kids for doing the lifting!

I will be fabbing up a Xmember shortly. Steel cost was under $25. No mates rates on this one.

Now...... here is the problem........ even with the Ford rear extension housing, the selector position still didn't align with the factory hole.

It's close [ about 30mm], but not close enough. Simple solution is to open up the shifter hole in the tunnel. Fortunately, when i trim the hole, it wont touch the floor reinforcement. There is enough clearance for that. That will keep the Inspector happy! :)

I have a tonne of room above the gearbox. It's only the selector part that is hitting. If i open up the tunnel & allow the box to poke thru, there will be heaps of room!

Pic of the box hanging down on the engine mounts. I can still lift it about 15mm to gain more clearance. If i poke the selector thru the tunnel, i will have heaps of room!

I think i will be opening up the tunnel! It's the simplest solution.

Still.... i have much more room than some of the T-5 horror stories that i have read on here.

While the boys were slotting the box into place, i took the opportunity to remove the front control arms.... again!

Brand new bushes! I contacted the manufacturer & they have supplied me with replacements. As i type, the arms are in the shop having the new items fitted. They will be getting the bill for labour too!

Wonder where the rest of the bushes are???? Have a gander inside the x-member...

That's it for now. I hope to have the front end reassembled this arvo or on the weekend.
It won't take me long to fab up a gearbox x-member, so purple can come home soon! :)

I'm hoping the manufacturer can shed some light on this.

How many vehicles have these fitted?

In my eyes, if these are failing like that, then surely it must be a basis for a national recall!

I'm happy to give them the benifit of the doubt, but if they fail again there will be hell to pay!

Well so far, about 95% of posters on here that have installed Nolathane bushes in the past 2 years have had failures.

Yes i did.
The reason behind it is because of the fore mentioned failures that everyone seems to be experiencing.

Now the manufacturer has been notified of the failure of their product. This time there can be no reference or speculation regarding shelf life of their product, or climatic influences. They supplied the replacements. The failure has been noted & recorded. Should these fail again, i'm prepared to take this to a higher plane than just an internet forum.

I have used these in the past without issue, & i have been for many years. I have also had failures with their products in the past but never bothered [ like most] to do anything about it.

Worth noting though, i only use these in the front position of the lower control arms & K-frame mounts. I use rubber for the rest.

I should have also said that the T-5 is from a VN SS commonwhore. The rear extension housing is from a Ford. Not sure which model, but i think XF.

This means i don't have to mix/match clutches, & i used the std VN bellhousing.

This isn't going to work if you have a aussie pattern block as the VN is Turbo pattern.

Some of the T-5's [ i think VR] use a different bellhousing & input shaft. I don't know how much further this moves the box rearwards.

i was thinking about fitting the t5 behind my slr BUT only if the shifter comes up in the original hole as i refuse to cut or mod the floor .What other boxes could you recomend. By the way your car looks red hot or is that purple hot lol

The tunnel mods required are very minimal. Less than other options. More pics to come.

Seems the Supra [W58 alloy case?] is the other alternative, but they can become very expensive when you factor in the cost of a new bellhousing, clutch ect.

I stuck with the Holden stuff because parts are plentyfull & reasonably priced.

If all goes well, Driveline Services Mackay will be adding this conversion to their stock.

Clutch cable arrived yesterday. It's a UC item. I hope it fits! With freight it was $117.

Because i have a short throw shifter [ which has stops for the throw] i also had to bend down a small section of the remaining lip.

X-member was as simple as it is ever going to get. The Ford X-member mount made it even easier!

I'll take some pics when/if i am under there again.
