Is it only when the suspension compresses when turning???
For example, if you turn the wheel from lock to lock does it make the noise??
I located a problem similar to that in a mates HJ ute. One of the LCA bushes was stuffed causing the LCA to move rearward slightly, which moved the spring seat rearward, and when the suspension compressed the spring would touch on the x member slightly.
It only happened for him when he was turning and going over a bump, like going up a driveway or something, but if the case was worse then it would happen when you turn and the car dives on the outside.
Probably the first place i would look if those symptoms sound about right. Just look for scuff marks on the springs.
Cheers.

I don't know about actually touching the cross member, but it definitely sounds like it would be the spring moving about making such a noise

going up and down the driveway and over speed humps its ok, i think, havent driven her in awhile cause of the weather... but i believe its only when i turn. im not sure what happens turning from lock to lock, ill check it out.
i think u may be right 76lxhatch and bomber, my first thought when i herd it was that the spring was moving around. ill get out there this weekend and check it out and report back. another probelm im having, not sure if its the springs/shocks or cause of the UC front end but its very ridgid. like it feels everything in the road and bumps and speed humps and shocking!!

Back when mine was making ding & dong noises and under braking and cornering it turned out to be my thicker springs rubbing on the front wall/edge of the LCA where the spring is seated.
I figured the arm was being pulled back when causing it to rub, so I suspected the rear bush was giving way under load or it had perished.
However on inspection the bush was fine.
As it turned out the only reason the LCAs where pulling back so hard was that the back brakes werent working good enough, so the front was diving and the arms peeled back under the extra load and the spring rubbed and made a ding noise.
The brakes where fixed by unseizing the proportioning valve & machining rear drums & new pads.
Look for any shinny wear marks on springs and moving parts.

It was hitting on the section of the x member you can see in this pick, the shrowd if you will around the upper spring seat.
Looking at that pick it appears that Torana is a bit different shape to Kingswood and it probably couldent happen.
Just sounded familiar so i brought up the first thing that came to mind.
Cheers.
