Thanks Leigh & Hayden Posted Image . A quick update on my progress & some pics to go with it. Heater is back in the car & hooked up so the engine now has coolant in it & can be run for longer than a minute or two . Finally replaced the red & silver engine covers with silver & Orchid ones, front & back screens are in along with the hoodling & visors, a big thanks to Gary (moot) for saving me from stuffing up the instalation by fitting it properly. Top job & highly recommend his work Posted Image . Rear bar & lights are on, haven't done the front bar yet as i haven't got anyone to help me lift in on at the moment. I'm halfway through making a custom boot instal to hide the fuel pumps etc, made the parcel tray & am part way through fitting a stereo system. About to fit up the doors & fit the carpet & replace the leaking rear brake lines so i can take it for a good drive.

mate she is looking good, love the engine covers, I never even thought of doing them silver with orchard highlights, I was thinking the other way around. what exactly did you do with the holden symbol it looks like it just has an outline in pink?

Thanks mate, i thought of painting the covers Orchid with silver highlights but ended up painting them the other way around. The lion emblem & the "5000 injection" are painted in Orchid with clear coat over them. These covers took two afternoons after work to paint but i wanted something a little different that would make the injected motor stand out from the car so i think the effort it took to paint them this way was worth it.

cheers Matt

Thanks for the offer, i might take you up on that loan offer on your B45s, it's looking like the car will be going down to Summernats with chasers on it otherwise, the 18s foul the lower front control arms on full lock & scrub on the rear guards when i go over bumps. I can leave you collateral until i get back from Canberra if that's cool. PM me your phone number. Thanks heaps Matt

No probs Lee, was good catching up with ya Posted Image . The chrome trims are going back on the doors, as you no doubt know, fitting up these cars is like doing a jigsaw puzzle, you have to follow a certain order when putting them together. That's on todays plan lol. I think i have those trims that clip onto the front apron under the grille, i've seen people here call them the "SLR smile". They have a couple of stone dents in them but they're yours if you want them, i'll dig them out of the shed today to make sure i have the pair. Yeah i'm itching to take it for a drive, watching it all come together kinda reminds me of watching my young fella open his chrissy presents if ya know what i mean. I need to source some guages for the oil & temp before i can drive it any distance, hopefully i'll get some on saturday. Will keep you posted.

Cheers Matt

Looking sweet mate this thread is starting to remind me of Herne's last year getting the "dream" ready for summernats.

Well done to Moot helping you out with the rooflining i hope you inspired him to build his car and not sell it .

Have fun at the NATS

Garth

Thanks mate, i don't know about you but i love this colour Posted Image . Oh yeah, i've had a few suggestions of painting the SLR blackouts like that prime example you posted the pic of but i'm quite happy with mine as it is. Believe it or not i owned a poverty pack 3300 three on the tree LH painted this colour from factory 14 years ago which is where i got the idea to spray this car Orchid. Does that count as number four? That car is probably long gone by now, a young bloke bought it of me & i don't believe he looked after it at all. Yeah you are right, rebuilding this car was far from easy, it was nerve racking at times, but then i've read your build thread so you already know that. Cheers Matt

The car's looking awesome. Great job. Now you just need to ditch the sludgeomatic and fit a "gearbox" : )
Just stirring. Keep up the good work. I really like the stocko look you've done it in. Awesome sleeper.

Lol, thanks mate. I know someone here on the forum who's in the process of trying to fit a T5 in his LX & from what he tells me it's not as straight forward as one might believe. Still i had lots of fun in my old Toranas with the M20 four slotters so you make a good point. Got sick of replacing them time & again when they'd break laygear shafts & main shafts though. I think the sludge-o-matic will be staying put, but it may get a shift kit & stall Posted Image Cheers Matt

Hey Matt. Yeah, that's fair enough. I just took a T5 out of my brothers UC hatch and I can see they had to do some tunnel mods. That's alright though, cos now I have to try and fit a T56 in there, so the old tunnel is GONE!!!!! : )

The 4 speed auto is a nice box. As far as being able to cruise and then lay good skids they're hard to beat. Look forward to seeing your car finished. It's one of the neater ones getting done in my opinion.

No probs Lee, i found one half of the smile yesterday & i'm certain the other half is in the shed somewhere. Well i have another update on my progress & some more pics. Doors are mostly together, i'm missing three of the plastic washers that go between the window winders & the rear interior door handles so only three door trims are on for now. Exterior is nearly complete, i'm thinking of repainting the gold wiper motor silver so the plenum grille & wipers are yet to go on. Nearly finished the custom boot install, need to finish the custom boot floor & beaver tail trim then connect the wires to the amp. Big thanks to Mick & Sean for their help here. Top job Posted Image .Fitted the CD player & finished of some minor wiring, parcel tray is done & 7x10s fitted, today hopefully i'll get the carpet & seats in & finish the interior. Another big thanks to Shane (gtrboyy) for bringing the B45s around. They look awesome on the car, pitty they foul on the front calipers though. Still haven't sorted that out Shane, but i'll keep at it. The car is going for a wheel alignment tomorrow so i'm cutting it fine to make it to Summernats but i'll give it my best shot. Cheers Matt.

Hi matt,

The car is a credit to you mate.

It actually looks better in person than in the pics,I was surprised how well the simmons suited the car & fitted in with the style of build lol.

For front brakes I reckon commo discs & hq calipers would be a goer..think struggler is doing the same thing for his uc,got to get calipers to finish mine off.Or doing them like your slr would work well also.

Man,would you believe it some mongrel keyed my ute..I only just got the damn thing.
