Thought everything was going to plan until I fitted the VY SS wheels to check for clearence to the guards. That's when i discovered whoever built the BW diff to suit the Torana welded the top control arm mounts on wrong. Passenger wheel sat outside the guard, driver's wheel inside the guard . Meassured it up, pulled it back out & sent it to a mate who's a boiler maker to re-locate the mounts. Oh well, back to the body work again. Repaired the quarters & beaver yesterday afternoon/evening.
Finished them off today & etch primed them.
And after what seemed like ages of hammering, filing, bogging & sanding, finaly some hi-fill was applied to the rear of the car.
I rushed the repairs a little so i'm not 100% satisfied with my work, but then i applied four good coats of hi-fill so it should block out OK. If not, i may re-prime it. Plans for the rest of the week, strip & prime the door apertures & roof turret. Got the diff back tonight but it's still not !00% so it's back out to get the driver's side top mount re-aligned 5mm out to centre the diff properly. Second time lucky I hope

Door apertures were easy enough, deoxidine & scotch brite pads. The sills have a few dents etc & i was hoping to have the whole shell in primer by last night, but the time spent on the turret meant i had to leave the sills for another time, so late yesterday with the turret repairs done, i masked up the car & began priming. Here the DP40 etch primer has been applied.
Finally, the hi-fill went on. Finished just before 9pm last night, so i waited untill today to take some pics. Today, finish off repairing sills & prime them & hopefully next weekend, start applying some colour.
Have decided on a colour for the car. I owned a Torana a few years ago painted this colour & i've always liked it, so i mixed up 500mm & showed the wife & she likes it too so the decision has been made. It will be Orchid metallic. Last saturday as it was raining, i took the bootlid into work to prime, so while i was there, i painted the under side in the Orchid 2K. It may not be to everyone's liking but hey, if we all painted our cars the same colours the world would be a boring place i imagine. Anyhow here's a sample of the car's final colour.

You've gotta be f*cking joking, read the post above againIf anyone out there has or knows of a set of rims for sale that would suit my car, i have a budget of around $1200. Not worried about tyres, brother-in-law works for Bob Jane.

You can try on the silver B45's I have to see what it looks like if you want.I do think they'd be a bit too understated for the car though.
When is the engine going in?
Keep up the good work!

Ah no i'm not joking, just exploring as many avenues as possible. V5s aren't to my liking, or any mesh style rim. If you read through my earlier post you may notice my preference with regards to Simmons are FR17 or FR18s. If i am asking too much, no sweat i retract my request & won't bother asking for help or such again.

Thanks mate, i just may take you up on your offer. It's sitting on chaser rims at the moment. Body shell is all in primer along with the bootlid & front apron panel, painted the door hinges tonight & i'll be starting on the doors tomorrow. Once the apertures are painted & the doors are back on the car, i'll start swapping the engine over from the VN. If all goes to plan should be in two weeks time.

i've had the doors in storage for near 15 years waiting for the right car to use them on & all were in very good condition, & this was confirmed by the soda blasting. No hidden surprises & almost no rust . The two driver's doors had very minor rust along the bottom where the weather seal fits, nothing too serious, but i had to repair it before i could begin any paint prep. I've already repaired the rear door, which was the worst, but i figured i'd share my rust repair procedure on the front door. It was too porous to try & fill the holes with weld, & there was no way i was going to bog it.
I started by making a rust patch template out of thin cardboard.
Then i traced the template out on an old doorskin from a Commodore i had lying around.
The area needing the repair had a curve in it, along with a flange, so i used a bench vise, pliers, panel hammer & dolly to shape the patch.
Once i was satisfied the patch was the right shape & fit, i scribed cut marks around the edge onto the door .
Then, using an air hacksaw & cut off wheel on a die grinder, i cut away the rusted section.
I trimmed a little too much off the bottom edge, but i can fill the gap with weld.
The patch welded in.
Here the extent of the rust can be seen, the reason i thought it better to cut it out completely.
All ground down, ready for a skim of bog.
It didn't really need alot & i know that this bog won't blister & fall out in six months time.
I repaired the few dents on the skin, primed the door then turned it over to paint the colour. I didn't bother priming, sanding etc the frame of the door, rather i used the "wet on wet" method of painting where i epoxy etch primed then sprayed the basecoat colour & clear straight on. Here's the finished result. Once the whole car is painted, i'll splash some paint right in the corners followed by some cavity wax to hopefully maintain the overall good condition of the panel for many years to come.
