This would give a neat look that's not to showy, and suit the rest of the car.

You're a cheeky bugger Doogs!

Good on ya Matt and good luck.

Have you considered painting the engine bay gloss black? My suggestion is to paint the front of the radiator support panel black and then just be really anal about getting every screw and bolt head looking clean and shiny. And if you're going to drive it in anything but a straight line manual boxes are better. But thats just my opinion, its your car, I'm sure whatever you do will look ace.

Yeah, I am thinking gloss black... It's simple and easy to maintain... It's probably going to stay auto as well... easier for the moment!

The more I think about it the more I think you need to smooth the bay out. Look at the bay in 2wild4u and you'll know what I mean.

DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd bloody love to go all out, but i don't have the equipment or skills! Unless you want to come down and help? Alcohol would be on me of course! HAHA!

Hi Matt

looks like a good score with the motor. if your looking for ideas on your engine bay some cheap easy mods to do yourself are conceal the wire-ring, colour code engine bay with some engine highlights in body colour too. I really like the HZ style master cyclinder, 1 inch bore and setup for disc brakes and looks stock (ish) and finally fill all the small holes in the engine bay.

That is all I did to mine and I think it looked pretty good, while not full on smooth and minimalist, it was cheap neat and I did it all myself. If I was doing it again I think I would have definitely put the battery in the boot

Posted ImageFrom Cruiza">

Thats the stuff, thats just the look i'd be aiming for. Something neat, but also very simple! I am considering moving the battery to the boot, i need to fix rust that is under the battery tray... So i would just put a flat bit of metal there. Is the only advantage of the battery to the boot the clean engine bay look?

Obviously you don't want to put a new battery in the car if there's nothing wrong with what's in it now, but a black battery would look a lot better too.

Yeah, I agree... Nice black batteries with neat straight terminals do look much better! I may need a new battery, I can get ACDelco batteries through work, and they are black... So might be a goer

I'm sure whatever you do will a vast improvement. I don't mean it looks crap now, I just know it will be better once you've changed it.

Well one of the moderators felt the need to delete the UC hatch thread I had going, so take care everyone and hope to catch up again another time somewhere else.

Come on guys, you know how it is. Same as politicians and local council - Give a d1ckhead some power and they'll abuse it every time.

So that's enough of that crap. The end.

Matt, sorry about the change of subject -

Since this car is your pride and joy, and you've indicated that you will never be selling it... I think it's time to get serious about the bay. Do it once, do it right. Go all out I reckon. You will never look back.

So that means - hidden wiring, hidden brake lines, battery in boot, full smooth over, fresh paint (definitely body colour!), and then detail the hell out of everything with a mixture of colour coding and chroming or zincing. If you don't have the skills yourself, save up some cash and get some professional help. It won't cost a fortune, and will add a lot of value to the car as well. Then you'll be proud to pop the bonnet at shows too.

Seriously though - don't skimp! The car is going to be off the road for a while anyway... so now is the time!! A super schmick engine bay will lift your entire car up to a whole new level.

I have plans to re-paint the whole car in a few years anyway, and pay someone to lay down some killer paint... But you're right brett.

I should clean up the bay as much as i can now though. Relocate everything and smooth off as much as i can.

I'm excited to get started now! Hopefully its a good winter project!

I'm a canberra boy, so Qld winter seems very nice.

As for a new colour, I think mission brown is a good 70's colour for a 70's car : )

I think you should do what you want to do with the bay, but if you don't smooth things over and hide stuff under your guards now, you will have to do it later when you get the new paint. My experience tells me that everything is better done sooner rather than later because there will be so much work in one hit if you leave it till all at once. Just my two bob :)

p.s. My experience is sweet F.A. But I'm convinced that my theory is sound. Just get in and do it whilst you have the bug.

matt i love this car and im always trolling thru this thread. If i were you i would be painting the bay electric orange and colour coding a few things then u wont be ashamed to lift the bonnet at car shows. And a little bit of chrome in there wont go astray either. My bay sounds alot like what you want to have just with a bit less colour coding than mine. You could just look at my thread to see what it would look similar to. But without the orange block.
Whatever you do in the end im sure it will be killer
