Well, I'm heading up to Sydney this weekend to pick up my motor! Also going to head along to the Drag Day at WSID!!

Should be a good weekend, really excited to get the motor and start nutting it all out. Motor will be coming out of the Torry soon so the mini-rebuild will begin soon. Going to get stuck into fixing up the suspension and making the engine bay look a bit better...

I bought a set of KHFL-15's - Lowered A9X King Springs. Hopefully this, along with the balljoints, bushes steering etc, will make a MASSIVE difference in the driveability of the car, and make me want to drive it more often!

What do people think of these extractors?

http://cgi.ebay.com....e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I know they are not top of the range, but has anyone else used these? Whats the quality like? Will they fit up no problems?

I'll just say they look pretty 'budget' as far as the merging is concerned and stuff. Don't know what clearance is like, price isn't bad

Let me know about price Chris... :spoton:

Josh... being to suit EFI heads... all the prices sky-rocket! It's a joke really!

Heath... I agree, compared to the other ones on the market ($6-700+) they do look a bit cheaper... Not mandrel bent etc... But they are a heap cheaper... and for my application should be adequate.

In any case, clearance will be important. I would try and talk to people who have used them before before buying them to make sure they will fit nicely. How much you care about the way they perform is another story. I'm sure they're a hell of a lot better than standard cast headers but they are clearly not the best thing going around.

Yeah, I agree Heath, I really want to hear from someone who have used these and had NO clearance issues...

I just noticed i haven't put a pic up on this page! So when i get home I'll snap a pic of the new donk and upload it later tonight!!! HAHA! Don't want my thread turning into a Heath thread with no progress! HAHA!

I used similar to these headers (i think they are Castle Headers) in my Orchid LH while my SL/R has Pacemakers. Both cars have injected engines. I found that although very similar in appearence & construction, there were slight differences in fitment & overall quality between the two brands. The cheaper ones had to be heated & bent to clear the floorpan & RHS chassis rail & when that was done it became apparent that they were made of thinner steel, but they do clear the factory front mount sway bar & the steering although i had to bend the RHS engine mount bracket on the k-frame for clearence. The Pacemakers are made of thicker steel but don't clear the front sway bar & i had to mod the engine mount as in the other car & the steering uni joint fouled on them too requiring slight mods. Other than that, the Pacemakers fitted alot easier. In my opinion both represent good value for money & both sets came with all bolts & gaskets etc.

I like 4 into 1s better but I don't think you can get them off the shelf for Toranas due to space restrictions?

Aren't (loosely speaking) 4 to 1s better at the top end and tri-Ys better for low-mid range torque?

Or am I talking out of my arse?

Yeah that seems to be the typical generalization, but pipe diameter and runner length probably have at least the same influence. A set of tri-y's are probably a better extractor in terms of getting some decent length runners without clearance problems in a Torana for a street car, but most of them have really bad merging sections out of the box.

As heath states its in pipe diameter, I have made 4 into one's and tri-y's for lots of strong cars and the difference comes down to the tightness of bends up setting flow and the size of the pipe. Just made two sets of 4 into 1's for LS1 into Torana and if I did it again it would be big try-y's.

Alrighty, so the ones currently on the motor (pictured above) they are 4-into-1's yeah?

I'm thinking Tri-Y's look to be the way to go for me... And if thats what Mumbo is running, it sounds good to me! I aim to eventually get down to his type of times with this motor (Probably not 11.1's though... I'll be stoked with high 11's)
