Also... Why are they called Tri-Y's? That makes sense on a 6cyl... But on a V8, wouldn't they be Bi-Y's? LOL

Alrighty, so the ones currently on the motor (pictured above) they are 4-into-1's yeah?

Strictly speaking yes, but the norm for 4 into 1 design would be with tuned length primaries and bigger collectors so they would be quite a different result to those

Yeah the headers on it at the moment are pretty similar to the standard SS headers.

But proper 4 into ones wouldnt merge until under the firewall.

Rays onto your extractor price, might be a few days (depends when I see him next)

I'm thinking Tri-Y's look to be the way to go for me... And if thats what Mumbo is running, it sounds good to me! I aim to eventually get down to his type of times with this motor (Probably not 11.1's though... I'll be stoked with high 11's)

Mate when i built my motor all i wanted to do was get into the 11s and it ran 11.6 1st pass mate i was over the moon.
But like anything its never enough just a tidy up of the heads and bigger stall and it does 11.1s all day long.
I just picked up a NOS kit to get me buy antil i have the money to build another motor prob wont use gas at the drags its more for powercruise

Yeah, I'm very keen to rip it down and see whats inside.. I have to get the motor onto an engine stand first! And as usual i have been told that i am already busy for the next bloody month by the minister for Sport, Recreation and Finance...

I'll find a way!

Awesome looking car! you have done some great work on this & it will be no time before you will have the front wheels off the ground!
I'm keen for a cruise down to Heathcoate also. When is the Vic drag day?

Hey Mate,

It'll be next year sometime... We normally do it around March... There'll be a thread once we organise it...

Heathcote is under new management, so not sure how they go with track hire now.

Just looking at the bottom end tonight of the motor. I don't think it has a stroker crank... The piston looks like it finishes at the bottom of the bore in basically the same place as the stock 308 i have sitting in the shed.

But the crank is definetly different, it's not a cast finish... It has been machined and the crank is not knife edged... but it has been smoothed off a bit over a standard crank. The guy i bought it off. 'thought' it was a stroker crank... But also rememebers the guy he bought it off saying something about a Larry Perkins Crank? (Is there such a thing?)

I think i'll rip the cam out and see if i can suss out what it is.

You need to measure the stroke distance to determine if it's a stroker crank or not... piston position may not tell you much.

Yeah, I'm thinking i may pull the manifold and heads off just to know what I got. While i'm at it... get some more compression etc too! LOL

Also hopefully find out what the cam is (And if it suits my desires!)

The guy didn't know, as it came in a car he bought (In which he in turn wrote off).... So i just paid for what i could see - VN Heads, Harrop Manifold, 650Holley, Accel Dizzy and a 308 Block...

He told me that when he bought it, he was told it was a 330 stroker with a big cam and 'it went really hard' hahaha

So yeah, keen to pull it apart and suss it out
