There are the larry perkins kits by ACL And as far as i know they havnt made them for a number of years

But they were a very popular kit to buy price wise for performance was really good without going overboard.

Id check the crank for numbers and perhaps do a google search or just pop into your local speedshop, Definately never seen a stock crank in that decribed form.

slap it back together and throw it on the dyno, If you like the figures keep it, if not Stroke it :)

Well it went hard enough for him to write it off, anyway its always a good start with those heads and manifold as you would think anyone putting those on has done some work to it hey, hope all turns out better than you expected and this should surely drop the numbers for you at Heathcote :spoton:

yeah the big ends should be 2inch, and a stroker crank will look like a normal holden crank because its a holden crank offset ground ( as you know i.e your 253 stroker)

so it should have a holden crank 2 inch big ends, chev or hemi rods and chev pistons..... also you should clean up one piston top and try and get the part number off it to work out what it is...

He told me that when he bought it, he was told it was a 330 stroker with a big cam and 'it went really hard' hahaha

So yeah, keen to pull it apart and suss it out

HAHA reminds me of my motor, turns out it was a 330, DID have a massive cam, but valves and pushrods were bent as! Always imperative to strip em down first ey to see what you really scored. Unfortunate about the non-stroke, I think you'll still be able to put together a damn hot combo though. It's quite exiting putting one together I reckon!

all this talk about stroking leaves us open for rodomo to make a 'what's with it with you young blokes and stroking?' type comment :o

Exactly my thoughts... First thing i looked for was different pistons. I'm pretty sure i can see 'Holden' pressed on the pistons from the underside. Not to worry! It'll be interesting to pull the motor down and see what it all is.

Yeah, the fun and games of buying 2nd hand! The best thing though is you get everything so much cheaper! I am keen to pull it down though, because it is exciting putting it together and knowing everything about it!!!

HAHA! I have been waiting for Brodomo to chime in...

Here are a few pics of the progress!

Excuse the eyesore of an engine bay... That is getting fixed now! No more mismatched colours and messy wiring!

Still lower than a few torrys i see getting around and its got no motor in it!!!

Posted Image

Update with the motor... Just had a Stage 1 Crow cam, standard pistons and rods (But they are A9L rods). Still not sure what the crank is, but is in good nick and is definetely aftermarket of some form....

It's pulled right down now as you can see in the pics, It's going to get a new cam (Still have to suss out what one) Then we tidied up and put back together... I really really want to put in a 355 crank etc in it now, but the funds don't agree. So it'll be a hot 308 for the moment that will have parts that will be interchangable when i go the next step on the 355.

Huge thanks to Ryan for coming over on Sunday and giving me a hand....

Nice work, not sure where you like getting your cam(s) from Matt but I'd recommend speaking to Trent or Clive from clive cams in Ferntree Gully, great guys, knew their stuff well, they ground the cam I currently have in mine and refaced my lifters (clevo lifters apparently :P), Trent even helped me with a dizzy after hours :D. Mines grind no. 241 if you want to compare.

But yea looking good :spoton:

Matt this is gonna be ace! Good luck getting it all together. Did you end up finding out what that vibration was?

Mate mine sits like a 4WD with no engine in it!

Sweet Brad, you're not the first person to mention Clive Cams, I actually think Justin mentioned them in comparison to going a crane cam. What did the custom grind cam cost you?

The vibration was the uni joints, when i dropped the tail shaft the rear uni was just mushed! I think i need to address my pinion angle.

I would also recommend Clive Cams. They did my original cam in the 383, and to date it was still the best cam ever! As Brad said, they also reface lifters to make sure they're perfect. (Even "out-of-the-box" brand new lifters are not perfect), so this is money well spent. I can't remember prices off the top of my head, but they are very good. Plus they're nice and local to you as well.

Good to see some progress, bring on the smooth (and orange) engine bay!!! Yeee har.

Hey mate dug up my receipt, was $204 ex gst, but then of course add a set of lifters on top of that.

I actually found out about them when I was ringing around trying to find out who ground the monsterous cam that was in the stroker when I got it, turns out it was Clive and advised me that I didn't want to put that stick back in my motor through wear marks which upon my first inspection were not visible to me, and that it was just too big for my application anyway, and made me exactly what I wanted.

Ar yeah I had the same problem with my rear uni. Just a worrying vibration under load that would come and go. Turns out the cups were missing bits and all the roller bearings had fallen out. That drag day probably finished yours off.

Hey Clive cams were good. I went there with Brad when he got his cam for his V8 and Clive himself came out, took a look at the damaged lifters we'd brought in and said "those lifters are f--ked! Anything else you wanna know?" Ha ha very funny guy.

Wow, that is cheap!!! I was expecting around the $400 mark and upwards... I'll definetly go down and have a chat with clive and suss something out.

Yeah, the roller bearings in my caps had been turned into a metallic grease! LOL!! All fixed now though, but its only a short term fix (until they wear out again)

How would you possibly adjust/alter your pinion angle?

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure... Some talk about making adjustable top trailing arms... Others have said if you put a big arse 3" Tailshaft and unis on, that will fix the problem. To be honest i'm not sure...

Id say it depends on where the problem lies, you might have to raise/lower the gearbox mount too.

You really need to get under it with the engine and box in it and see where the dramas are.

Yeah thats the big thing, needs the weight on the wheels to have the suspension in the right spot.

Ive never really had to deal with it much, little bit when I put the celica box in the LJ, but its got a std diff, so it was only the gearbox that needed adjusting up and down.

There is a thread on here somewhere that discussed pinion angles and how to fix it. if you dare use the search function you MIGHT find it! haha.

also, reply to my email from yesterday douche rag!

Alrighty, Updates.

K-Frame is out and apart, got to clean it all up, re-paint it and press in you bushes and ball-joints. I have to get this car handling better! Found a few small things that would have had negative effects on the handling. So they will be addressed and fixed.

Whats the best way to clean up the Kframe and control arms etc for paint? Will a wire wheel do the trick? Or Get them blasted?

Here are a few crappy pics.
